Exclamation Bristol Scout flies in the UK.

Found this nice pic of a Bristol Scout's first flight in the UK.
It is a combination replica/restoration using some original parts from the owner/builders Grandfathers Bristol he flew in 2 Naval Wing in WW1. S/No was 1264

Famous WW1 replica pilot Gene De Marco who flies many of the Vintage Aviator aircraft in NZ took the controls for the first flight.
Not sure if any of our UK members saw any press releases or news items on this?

I certainly did not see anything about it Baz.
Very nice to see that bird flying in GB.
Maybe we will get the chance to view it one of these days.
    Thanks for posting.

Do you know where it is based in the U.K., please, Barry? Also, do you know why it is bearing French roundels?

I posted the BBC story that was posted before the plane took to the air. Good to see a successful first flight

The stuff on the Beeb here but much more interesting is their website including loads of pics and a video of the take-off !

PS - seems they take it apart and transport it about - been to Shuttleworth Collection and other places so eyes down - or up as the case may be !

Thats interesting! I did not pick up that. Unfortunately I do not know where
Strange as it was a RNAS Bristol.

Maybe something in flash's link to the BBC to answer both your questions.

I have found the explanation of the roundels on the other 'Aerodrome' site. http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/sh...=23234&garpg=5

Originally, the RNAS used a red ring with a white middle, but then added a blue central spot to avoid confusion with Danish machines and also by then they were receiving French built aircraft bearing the French roundels. Eventually they adopted the blue outer ring on white with a red spot like the RFC.

After reading some of other descriptions of national markings on the other website, and seeing this http://www.turkeyswar.com/aviation/aircraft-gotha.html I hope someone will design a Gotha WD-12 on Shapeways. Of course, I have no idea what the maneuver deck would be.
