Default Official Douglas TBD-1 Devastator Painting Thread

I just finished several Devastators in 1/144th and 1/100th scales. The 1/144th scale models are Aki kits while the 1/100 scale models are from Armaments in Miniature (AIM). AIM also makes Devastators in 1/200th scale.

The models represent aircraft in Torpedo 8 (VT-8), at Midway. The models are painted with a mix ov Vallejo Model Color Gray Blue and Pastel Blue over Sky Gray. Decals for the 1/144 scale kits are a mix of kit decals, Eagle Strike decals, and Miscellaneous Miniatures decals. Those on the 1/100 scale models are Eagle Strike and Miscellaneous Miniatures.

    Default 1/200 AIM TBD1's

Here are a couple AIM TBD's in 1/200. The smaller the scale, the more fiddly the cockpit is to paint! 8^(
I believe both these aircraft were lost at Midway...

All aircraft excellently produced and painted.
Those canopy paint jobs keep on getting my attention.
    Jolly well done.

These are very light repaints of the Trumpeter TBD-1 Devastador.

They are made of plastic. Very light and with excellent detail.

Not weathered yet. But soon will be.

Superb set of aircraft again Quim.
You are making me realize that I am sidetracked on buildings and magnetic pegs production.
I need to get back onto my aircraft.

Miscmini did all the hard work again.

4 pack of Merit's: (2) are '42 schemes w/ USS Bataan specific markings (yes it's historically inaccurate), (2) are from the Coral Sea.

Thanks all. There are so many great painters here at the Aerodrome to use as inspiration and as a guide.

Here are two more painfully slow AIM Devastator targets with Keith's spinning props. Two more to go (3&4) and I'll be done with Devastators and will move on to the Dauntless. I hope to get a few of those done before the ARES version show up.

Haven't flown them yet. In a couple of missions soon in the PTO solo campaign they will take to the air.
(I'll print up a set of your Rs deck and try to give them a try out this weekend.)

It's not as good as I want, but this drawing might have enough detail (barely) to do a card:

I would suspect the "I" deck, off hand, being a dive bomber. The Unofficial Stats List would say, but I'm not at home, ATM. I volunteer at the Comox Air Force Museum on Wednesdays.

    R**(Z) deck.
That is, an R deck (Fw-190D), remove the extreme side slips and the reversal, and then use Zoe Brain's arrow length only movement system. They were slow.

A bit cleaner image with which to work. And when I got back home to check the Unoffical Stats, Karl has already beaten me to the "official" answer. Even slower than the "I" deck? Wow.

And I took a shot at this color scheme, too:
