The second Briscon 2017 WGF mission was 'Balloon Buster' set in mid April 1917. Not only did the mission bring in observation balloons but also introduced cloud cover.
Again I provided each team with a briefing sheet which they kept secret from their opponents.
A veteran from our first mission Sebastian brought in his brother Xavier to fly for the RFC (under the watchful eye of their mum Sam).....
Xavier took a particular liking to my flying helmet prop - for about two minutes at least
While two more newcomers Steve and his son Samuel took over Jasta 11 to defend the German balloon.
In no time the action was on, with Seb flying the SPAD S.VII see here chasing Steve's Albatros......
.....and Xavier in the Nieuport 16 (because it has ROCKETS!!!). With some assistance Xavier made a successful rocket attack on the balloon lighting her up.
One of the event organisers Fraser (Dad to Seb and Xavier) comes over to watch the action.
About now two more players joined the fray - Dan and Lachlan who are both forum members - Slexlaw and Rocklan respectively. Dan brought on another SPAD and Lachlan took a third Albatros. Unfortunately for Dan his SPAD was set alight in the first exchange, but being another old hand he put things right with a timely overdive.
As the flames consumed the balloon ....
... Samuel got in behind Xavier's Nieuport which also started to burn.
Finally the German balloon went down .....
..... with Xavier and Seb sharing the victory as they both shot it on the last turn (although in the interests of family harmony they each got trophies in the end ).
Xavier's celebrations were short lived however as his fragile little Nieuport was shot down in flames by Samuel's Albatros!
Another trophy to the victor.
With the balloon 'kaput' we played a few more turns.....
.....then called the game declaring a British victory.
By this time it was early afternoon with enough time for one more mission - a good old fashioned scout on scout dog-fight!
