Thread: Paint small inscriptions... or not paint?

Default Paint small inscriptions... or not paint?

Hi guys! I have one question - I would like to know your opinion about painting small inscriptions on models. I know you mostly use decals, but I don't want to use them, at least now... I want to have Italian SPAD and I've found one of Giorgio Pessi. His SPAD had some inscriptions on rudder ( http://www.ipmsstockholm.se/home/wp-...rgio_s7_03.jpg ) and I am now thinkng about how to paint them... Letter "S" should be quite simple, but other letters and numbers are almost impossible to paint. So... would you suggest to use only black lines, or black broken lines? Or it will be better to leave the plane without it? Thanks for your advice!

Just my personal general approach to the minis in WoG, Jiri:
    1) these are just gaming pieces, not exact models,
    2) painting/repainting them should give you a great deal of fun, not a headache,
    3) from a tabletop distance (after a drink) you can not see such details.
I would not care about those tiny little letters at all!

Best answer would be to design marking (Gimp, Photoshop etc.), print it on transparent decal paper and apply.
You don't get headache (Nightbomber is right! on all 3), but you get historically accurate model - if you want so.

    Just adjust size.

Letters almost can not be seen, but you'll know they're there

P.S. Don't worry, when picture has white background it doesn't show on decal paper. Anything white doesn't.

Andrzej did not tell you that on Prague Summer Con an adult player must drink a beer instead "pilot hit" damage in WGS After two or three hits during evening session there are these letters just ... invisible

In that case I recommend some old civil engineer who can write in technical font.

When I was painting Black Templars for Warhammer 40K they had Vows etc written on their shoulder pads & I just made small squiggles with a very fine point permanent marker pen & they looked fine so you could try that technique.

Grumpybear and Gully_raker: Thank you guys, this idea sounds great! Some small squiggles could look great and could satisfy me, I have to try it! Soon I'll upload photos to Showcase, I hope...

Andrzej: That's the problem, I was thinking of not doing this letter, but there is some small stupid part of me, which is such a perfectionist
