Thread: Gotha G.V Paint Schemes

    Default Gotha G.V Paint Schemes

I was thinking about getting another Gotha G.V to repaint but after some searching, I can't find any paint schemes.
There are other versions of the Gotha G.V that to me look pretty much identical but was trying to keep it as historical as I can.

Can anyone direct me in the right direction?

Check out Wingnut & wings Palette for schemes Kelly - a quick search of wiki images for Gotha V will reveal a number of different paint jobs - whether they are all G.V is another matter !

There are quite a few out there, Kelly; Dave's suggestions are good ones.

I have two and want to repaint one, and perhaps get a third. Not sure if I want to keep them the same unit (I think the night camo one from Ares is a Bogohl 3 bosta plane), but I found some 'riseofflight' (a computer flying game?) 'skins' that show two other planes of the same unit. So I'm thinking about THAT aspect, but I also like some of the other GIII/GIV schemes out there, and since the Ares plane is a hybrid GIV/GV I might go with different schemes for them...decisions, decisions...

    Happy hunting!

    All the best,
    Matt

    Ciao guys,

if you don't mind the difference between G.IV and G.V, here are some color plates from Profile Publications #115 and from German Bombers of WWI - In Action #173.

There are a couple of interesting ones here - must admit due to the engine nacelles on the Ares model I tend to look for G.IV colour schemes for it rather than G.V.

Thanks gents for the info. I just figured I would try to get a G.V version but their is not that much difference in them.

The pictures you guys supplied and the ones I found are mostly side profiles. Do all the top wings have the lozenge camouflage?

No - most day bomber Gothas had plain pale blue wings. There's an excellent run-down of lozenge use on Gothas here:

Edited to remove my mistaken comment on the Aschoff machine - his was one of the very first batch of G.V to get lozenge pattern wings, my bad. G.IVs were all completed before Gotha started using lozenge patern though.

    Ciao Kelly,

this is a long debated issue on a variety of forums.

There are so many camo schemes around the Net that it is almost impossible to have a clue of what is pure fantasy or what is historically accurate if one doesn't have the proper tools.

Tools that are photos, dedicated publications and, of course, a little bit of passion that prevents to stop at the very first color plate found on the Internet.

So, I would like to share with all of you Gotha lovers, these "must-to-have" books that each modeler should have in his library:

    Windsock Datafile Special # 9 - Gotha!
German Bombers of WWI - In Action #173
    Windsock Datafile #83 - Gotha G.I
    Profile Publications #115 - The Gotha G.I-G.V

If you are interested just drop me a PM.

There are some very interesting pics, photos, color plates and studies about the German bombers paint and camo schemes, not only lozenges.

Such as this one that I find very impressive:
