'The Wind Rises' on television.

Hayao Miyazaki's latest feature length animated film 'The Wind Rises' will be shown by the Film4 t.v. channel (Freeview 15, Sky 315, Freesat 300, Virgin 428/HD 429) 3.25-6.10 p.m. on Saturday 7th February, repeated 6.25-9.00 p.m. on Friday 13th February. It tells the life story of Jiro Horikoshi, who rose to head the design team which created the Mitsubishi A5M Claude and A6M Zero. Inspired by Giovanni Caproni, he overcame difficulties to become an engineer and achieve recognition and it shows the personal sacrifices made as he strove to perfect his designs. He is not presented as a warmonger.

I have seen this film at the cinema. It is worth watching.

Got the DVD, spoiler alert - Boy meets girl, boy marries girl, girl dies, boy designs Zero. Actually it's not bad and the portrayal of the aircraft is superb.

Record it and you can always fast-forward through the sloppy bits.
