At Doncaster this past year, I had hoped to have a box finished as a prize - unfortunately, life intervened. So I asked Neil and Chris to have a 'coupon' as a prize which the winner could redeem for a counters box designed to his or her specifications. Chris ended up winning the coupon, and, of course, his box design of choice involved his beloved F2B In the hustle and bustle to get ready to go to England in January, I forgot to take pictures of it, so Chris sent me a couple...

I used a new color on the box itself - a stain called 'gunstock', which is a tad bit redder than what I previously had been using. I rather like the color of it. Then it's sealed with a couple of coats of poly varnish and painted with my usual Vallejo paints. I finished it up and delivered it to him personally at RAF Hendon when he came down to visit the museum with me and my son on our recent trip to the UK. It was wonderful to be able to deliver it in person to him. As you can see from the second picture, he has it already in use

    As always, thanks for looking

    Always the best,
    Matt

Here is the latest variation on the theme - this box is donated as part of the Lend-Lease Raffle to bring Tim/Flying Helmut to Origins this summer. I used a stain called 'Gunstock', which is a tad redder than the 'Pecan' I have used in the past. I like the way it brings out the grain on the pieces I've used it on so far. The Nieuport 28 wing and the Fokker DVIII wing made a nice change.

I got to this thread very late. Michael's still has these boxes available but they are $6.49 each. They are about 8" square and 1.5" tall (outside dimensions). They have others, just search for "wood box" to find them.

Once we can get out for "non-essential" shopping, I may try to make one although it definitely won't be to Matt's high standard.
