    Default "Broadsword calling Danny Boy"

    Hello Members of the Aerodrome!

I have a confession to make - I have never played a game of Wings of Glory/War... but I'd like to. A long time board game aficionado I was looking to expand my collection with something a little different. After reading a few lists of "best games of 2014" etc I cam across Sails of Glory and after a few reviewers saying it was good but not as good as Wings of Glory i thought - maybe I should give that a try?

However expensive and rare board games are my weakness so I am busy scouring the web for a reasonably priced starter set/combo set. I am more interested in the WW2 section because of my childhood airfix days of spitfires and hurricanes. I have delved in the back rooms and dusty shelves of my local game stores but come up empty.

So if you know of a site, or have one for sale let me know!

About myself? I'm 29, live in Glagsow, bought my first flat this year - a fixer upper, nearly finished and get married later this year. As a boy i wanted to be a pilot until the optician informed me that i was three ways colour blind so that wouldn't be an option. Rats.

Anyway that's me and thnakyou to Wing Commander Kyte or Rob, or flying officer for the introduction and I hope to chat nonsense on this forum. Sounds like a good one.

Welcome to the forum, James, from Connecticut!

Sadly, ME 109s are nearly impossible to find, and when found typically require taking a second mortgage out on your house... Spitfires are a little easier to find, especially the Mk. IXs. Every so often I see a Starter Set for sale/auction... if I stumble across another WGS (WWII) Starter Set, I'll drop you a line.

    Kyte to Ledge chops.

I feel I must explain the triumvirate Wingco Kyte, and his family.
As a young novice like yourself I joined the Drome as Flying Officer Kyte. I was noticed by the then Col Hajj our founder, who must have noticed some latent madness in me because he invited me to run the U.K. Squadron, as it then was. Over the years I gradually got promoted as the size of the British Wing grew, and I got more cred on the site itself. I eventually ended up with the rank of Wing Commander for my sins, or as some would put it , getting away with it undetected.
In games terms for our long running solo campaign, I started off as young Lt. Kyte in the early years, and rose to Squadron Leader by mid 1917.
Having come into contact with some V.I.P.s during some missions, after the Armistice I was given the rank of Group Captain at the ministry of dirty ......... headed up by one Wing Commander Raymond.
At the outbreak of WW2. with the Brevet Rank of Air Commodore, Kyte arrives in Malta to serve under Air Vice Marshall Maynard as his Chief of Staff on the eve of the Italian Declaration of War. This takes us into the WW2 Solo campaigns.
Thanks to his inclusion in several other members AAR's over the years he has accumulated a number of friends and acquaintances, such as Group Cpt. Triggers. Major James Bigglesworth, Professor Jones Senior, and his long serving Friend Nigel Bouncer-Smythe, who flew "Biffs" now known as Brisfits along with him in 52Sq. (The Bulldogs). In addition both he and Nigel produced families some of whom are now serving in the R.A.F. in Malta and Europe. You will come across Nigel's son Peter and his chums Ginger Blaney and Ronnie Sanderson for instance. Kyte also has a nephew serving in England.
His stalwart supporter Mrs Kyte, also appears from time to time, and id none other than my own wife Eileen.
I am Rob, Kyte's Orderly Officer, and oft raconteur, since his first escapades WWI. and as such I am privy to his inner most thoughts which in the main revolve around from where the next G&T is coming.
I trust this clears up any problems you may have experienced with my personality split, because it certainly has not helped me to get my head around it.
To everyone on the Drome, I am just Rob, or the silly old fart, so don't stand on ceremony please.
if you wish to discover more about Kyte and his chums, read the AAR's, or have a look at the Letters of Nigel in my Blog.
    Rob over and out.

Have fun stumbling around the forum, James - it's a great place to lose yourself.

"Where Eagles Dare" is one of my all-time favorite WW2 movies, too. You will need to find a green and white camoed Ju52 pretty soon once you start getting into WGS...

    All the best,

G'day James & welcome to the 'drome on behalf of the pilots who fly in NSW down in Australia.

Now you have been given Mr Kyte's full history you must feel one of the privileged "Few"!

I have the honour to be the confidant of Capt. (Now Group Captain) Triggers a friend of Kyte's who started off flying in the Royal Naval Air Service & made his name as Flight Commander in "the Hearts of Oak" Naval Sqd flying Camels in WW1.

I am sure you will fit right in to this wonderful & sometimes crazy place called the Aerodrome!

Do join us old stager's in the Officers Club Bar for a proper "Knees Up" so you can meet the other chaps who visit here.
Oh & on the subject of Rules sets, models etc. If you dont find what you want at Aerodrome Accessories do try Dom's Decals in the UK. He is also a member here.

If supply of WW2 is too difficult due to the U boat scourge why not start in WW1. Lots more goodies available there.

Welcome aboard James. If you can hold off until May I'll be at Carronade again, Falkirk Show, running WW1 and WW2. I also attend Claymore Show in Edinburgh a little later in the year.

You can have a good look at both sides of the game, meet some likewise players from Scotland and have a jolly good bash.

As Rob has mentioned the WW2 planes, especially the early production (model wise not aircraft wise) runs of Spitfires, Hurricanes and ME109's are hard to come by.

Check this site out as he has some not all early models at reasonable prices. Grab the new rules box if you can as it has the counters you will need, range rulers etc. Extra decks can be found in the blister packs advertised on the ludibay site. I think only Eagles of the Reich is in stock. (B decks for ME109's).

    http://www.ludibay.net/advanced_sear...riq5&x=16&y=11

Then if your stuck for ME109's etc, check out armaments in miniature (US site) that sell 1/200 unpainted aircraft (hence the blister packs with extra decks),

    http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/armamen.../resin09mm.htm

bases and flight pegs you can get from the aerodrome accessories shop advertised on this forum:
