Question Trivia Quiz No 15 - Surviving Original WW1 Planes

It behoves me to present for your amusement and entertainment, Trivia Quiz number 15.

Below are 10 pictures of surviving WW1 aircraft, either originals or comprising for the large part original components. All you have to do is name them and tell me where they are on display. One point awarded for the name, one point for where it is housed - 20 points in all. The first person sending me the answers and getting the highest score wins the quiz and the admiration of all.

Deadline for answers is Thursday 30th September, 11:59 p.m. GMT.

When answering the Trivia Quiz, please DO NOT post your answers to this thread for all to see. PM or e-mail your answers to me. This will allow everyone the opportunity to guess. I'll acknowledge all entries received.

    Good luck everyone!

Good thought - not doing too well at all, and that Finnish floatplane is driving me crackers....

One entry so far. Come on chaps, it isn't that difficult surely?

Arrow Two and a bit days to go

OK chaps, you have just over 2 days to get your answers in for this quiz. I look forward to being overwhelmed by responses in the near future. England expects, and all that!

(Currently I think the word "underwhelmed" is more appropriate )

Maybe you've got to try easier questions next time - even I thought there were some real stinkers in there, and I'm a nut....

So the "which aircraft does this bracing wire come from" quiz is a bit of a non-runner then?

    Yes, unless they're labelled....

    Arrow AND THE WINNER IS.......

The moment you've all been waiting for (or possibly not) - the answers to the quiz:

    1. Pfalz D.XII - Seattle Museum Of Flight, Washington State, USA
    2. Roland D.VI - Krakow Air Museum, Poland
    3. RE8 - Air Museum (I would accept the Royal Army Museum as it is part of that) Brussels, Belgium
    4. Albatros B.I - Heeresgeschichtliches (Military) Museum, Vienna, Austria
    5. Aviatik Berg D.I - Technical Museum, Vienna, Austria
    6. BE2b - RAF Museum, Hendon, London
    7. Knoller C.II - National Museum of Technology - Prague, Czech Republic
    8. Rumpler 6b - Hallinportti Aviation Museum, Hallinporti, Finland
    9. Martinsyde Buzzard - Aviation Museum Of Central Finland, Tikkakoski, Finland
    10. Aero AE-10 (I would have accepted Hansa-Brandenburg B1, of which the Aero is a copy) - Prague Aviation Museum, Kbely, Czech Republic

Not many entries I'm afraid, but where's the fun in making a quiz too easy? Google would have provided all of the answers. Anyhoo, we have an outright winner who not only identified all the aircraft correctly, but also their locations.

    And the winner is.....

    Drum roll............

Congratulations Dom, for a superb effort. Just remember the old maxim - Nobody likes a smart a**e! Now go away and ask the nice Colonel for a medal

I'd like to thank my family, my agent, my serious need to get out more, and my extensive library of Windsock datafiles; this win belongs to all of them as much as me. But I'm keeping the medal....

    Congratulations Dom,

As the winner, you get the privilege of posting the next Trivia Contest! (If you so desire).

The 10 questions can be either WWI or WWII related, but must be combat aviation focused. If you do desire to post the next contest, follow the same pattern as you've seen here, and as in the previous contests, make sure you add to the post not to reply with answers on the thread, but to PM or e-mail the answers directly to you.

Let either Col. Hajj or myself know if you would like to post Trivia Quiz No. 16.

    Good luck, and again... Congratulations!

Blimey, I'm not sure I'm qualified, but I'll have a rummage through the old quizzes when I get a minute and try to think of something suitable....

If you don't think you are qualified enough Dom, the rest of us are in real trouble.

Ahh, but I was desperately sad and went earnestly looking things up. The Brussels RE-8 was the only one I could pinpoint at a glance, plus at least recognising the type for a couple more....
