Default Official Brewster Buffalo and family Painting Thread

I sensed a lack of Buffaloes in the showcase so, here are some 1/200 scale and 1/144 scale Buffaloes that I've painted. I painted the Finnish Buffaloes earlier this year and the 1/144 scale True North Buffaloes back in 2009. The rest were painted in between.

    Primary colors (Vallejo Model Colors):
Finnish Buffalo - Medium olive and black gray over pale blue
British Buffaloes - Beige Brown and Olive Gray
    US Buffaloes - Pastel blue
Dutch - Beige Brown, Bronze Green, and aluminum (belly)

I believe the Dutch and some of the US decals are from Armaments in Miniature and the rest are from the scrap decal box.

    Kevin,

good work! Thanks for paints tips, too.

Which decals did you use, specially for 1:200 Finnish planes?

I know the decals on the Dutch Buffalo are from Armaments in Miniature. The rest are a mix of I-94, Scale Specialties, and Armaments in Miniature.

This is my first painted squadron on my Dutch WW2 Air Force.

    The models are from AIM.

The decals were offered by Squadron Leader Guus.

This Saturday they will fly to The Hague and fight for the first time.

    Will they behave?

The Squadron is now complete. After these, I have to paint all the other ones...

The Japanese have another foe to fear.

Great job, Peter. I hope they do better than their real life models.

Thanks guys. I like that quite a few nations flew Buffaloes so there are a nice smattering of painting schemes they can wear.

Beautiful work, as always, Peter - Andy has hit the nail on the head with his critique I have always loved the look of the Buffalo - it was part of a Revell 3-pack of 72nd scale planes I built back in the late 60s...lots of options for paint schemes...

    All the best,
    Matt

Here is a flight of KNIL Buffaloes. All of these planes are well documented.

Camo is airbrushed Mr Color, underside is airbrushed AK Extreme Metal Duralumin, canopies are Vallejo Metal Silver tinted with Tamiya Black Panel Liner, Panel Lines with Flory Models Dark Dirt Panel Liner. Decals, of course, are Misc Mini with fuselage stripes hand painted

I keep seeing Navy cups in your background. That your boat or or a family member? Also GREAT Buffalos. I need to paint some up now to go with my Flying Tigers for Burma fights.

    Hey Kirk,
I served on the USS Augusta, SSN-710 from 87 to 93. I was a Nuke and served as DCA, RCA and Comm-O during my tour. I'll be posting cards for these soon. If you need any minor changes to make a card here and there to match some Buffaloes you paint, let me know.

    Tim,
I greatly prefer tinted silver myself over blue. When ever I see a plane, or even cars for that matter, the windows always look like a dark, slightly silvery color to me.

    Chris,
Targets? I think not! These bad-boys will be hunting Oscars, zeroes, Nells, Bettys and Sallys across the shores of Java and Sumatra! At least if you ask them, that is what they will say.

... and thanks to all of you for you kind words! I hope to see them on a table somewhere soon.

This one is a M-339D. Better engines and a little armor for the pilot.
