I did not paint this. Kevin (user miscmini) did it. He should get the rep.

Couple of 1/200 Zero with Trumpeter floats. Hardest part was shaping the float to fuselage strut. It is beyond small.

Wow, Tony... that is some really nice detail work. Took a look at some of your album photos and you really know how to paint up those tiny scale WWII minis.

Here is an AIM 1/200 A6M2-N from 802nd air group.

This guy was airbrushed with my absolute favorite Mr Color Japanese Grey-Green. Decals are stock Misc-Mini except I had to extend the blue fuselage bands quite a bit. A couple dabs of Vallejo Model Color Royal Blue took care of it. I gave it a satin finish as these early war Japanese planes were pretty shiny. I decided against panel lines as I just don’t like them on light colored fighters most of the time. Flory Models wash was used for highlighting control surfaces.

The AIM Model was excellent. Nice clean lines and easy to build.

    Nicely painted.

Would medium grey panel lines work on the lighter models, instead of the dark lines? Like you did on a plane here: Official Kawasaki Ki.48 "Lily" Painting Thread - Post #29

    Hey Mike,

I experimented on the Grey-Green F1M Pete I’m wrapping up now, and I had a real hard time getting it to look good. Well, I couldn’t and ended up washing them off. The grey I used on the Lily just didn’t look good on the zeroes, which are the same base color as this Rufe. Too dark. I tried and it overwhelms the model. The early A6Ms were painted in a satin finish, and covering them with dark panel lines completely kills the historical look, in my opinion. The good news about Flory wash is if you don’t like it, a little warm soapy water, and it’s gone. I’m going to try some custom oil mixes on the batch of A6M3’s I have on deck now. I want to try it with a slightly darker green than the base color so it doesn’t break it up too bad. I figure that by the time I get one I really like, I’ll have all my models painted.

    Thanks for the card reference!
