Default US Navy pilot lands Harrier on a stool after landing gear failure.

    Incredible skill!

Impressive, but not the first time this has happened. If memory serves, there was a Super Stallion in VN which had the left main gear fall off, and landed on a stack of mattresses; and at least one instance of a General Aviation airplane being landed partly on a moving truck after a gear failure....

I think the truck one was CGI if memory serves me correctly.

Good skills by the pilot, though I suspect the amount of 'bounce' on the landing will have caused some structural damage to the aircraft. Still, much better than throwing the whole thing away!

I found this most interesting James. It just goes to prove the ingenuity of Service men and women in dealing with emergencies and tricky situations, and the foresight in having a contingency plan ready.

The way that thing bounced I'd be surprised if that may not have been the only stool he landed on that day !

I know there's a couple fakes floating around out there; but there's at least one actual instance (not sure if it was caught on film, tho').

Thunderbirds did it first, I think.

Interesting video there James. Mind you, I've managed to fall off a stool a couple of times due to landing gear failure....no skill required
