Official Dewoitine D.520 Painting Thread

This plane draws the least attention of the players and forumers IMHO. In fact, it's scenario usage may be seen as limited. At least I thought so.
However the things started to change when Eric AKA 7eat51 had sent me a gorgeous parcel with some D.520s inside, pointing to a great variety of D.520 users on several fronts. I knew the plane was even flown in 1940 by some Polish "chimney squads" in France (Chimney - for they were protecting some vital industrial sites of France) that got some kills of bombers. Moreover, some of those planes were bought in 1939 by our military authorities - unfortunately they were not delivered on time...

There are not many pictures of the D.520 bearing Polish markings in France, so...let the imagination works

They were simply redecaled, so they are not exactly repainted, but the overall effect is similar

Now let's protect some factories against the Heinkels...

A very nice job, Andrzej. Sometimes, a simple redecaling can make a big difference. as seen here.

Also the D.520 maneuver deck (D) doesn't follow its maneuverability, which was actually very good, and that makes it really weak a plane in the world of WoG. It was definitely closer to Hurricane than to Wildcat.

As usual, you have made an excellent job of what was becoming a Cinderella aircraft Andy.
I must admit I only have one, and then find I could use them for the Vichy French in Algeria.
Now there's an interesting "What if."

A couple of months back I started a WGS Polish Air Force Campaign, which has reached June 1940 (http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...igns-1936-1945). The Polish airmen who fought so hard to defend their homeland are now in exile and flying with the French Armee del'Air. As their escadrille has just transitioned from the Morane MS.406 to the Dewoitine D.520 I thought I would make up some custom aircraft for my three campaigners Paul, Rod and Wayne.

These three D.520s started out as captured Regia Aeronautica aircraft but I have 'repatriated' them back to the French who issued them to their Polish allies. White fuselage band on the 'Stellas' was repainted in olive green, rudder painted white and spinner painted black. Wing roundels are home made, the white circle for the ID number on the tails and tricolour rudder markings are Helmet and the red numbers Microscale. I re-allocated a few Polish national insignia from my PZL P.11c sheet bought from 'miscmini' here on the forum to serve as fuselage markings. Spray on dullcote finished the miniatures nicely.

The lads are going into battle this weekend with their new mounts, I wish them luck.

The black serial numbers on blue background correspond to the decorations proposed on the miscmini decal sheet. Attention D-520 number 136 belongs to the 3rd squadron SPA73 storks and therefore can not be seen with the panther of SPA78.
Not easy to get evidence on numbers, markings. Nevertheless all these planes belonged to the "Groupe de Chasse" GC II/7.
