Thread: How many miniatures do you own (Rebooted 2-JUN-14)

I have the advantage that 6mm scale planes take up a lot less storage space than 1:144! I got started on that scale a long time before WoG was invented, and it's too late to change now. Most of my 1:144 planes are test prints from Shapeways.
    53 WWI in 1:144
    366 WWI in 1:285-1:300
    ~12 WWII in 1:285-1:300

Everyone needs a fantasy collection to dream about and perhaps some day vaguely approximate. Or perhaps more important, everyone needs a super example to demonstrate to a less than fully gruntled SWMBO that your personal treasures and accompanying clutter are mere trifles in the grand scheme of things. Rick Rudofsky just circulated a couple of links to Peter Tamm's personal collection, otherwise known as the International Maritime Museum. I'll pass those on here. With 45,000 + models just in 1:1250, all beautifully displayed, the collection definitely qualifies as both "ultimate aspiration" and "SWMBO's worst nightmare". See: http://www.imm-hamburg.de/ and, for example, https://picasaweb.google.com/1162198...D5ko2Bx97JqQE#.

Please note that the Picassa file covers the other touring experiences of a group of collectors who attended the meets in Hamburg and Kassel. Enjoy.

For those so inclined there is an American equivalent of Kassel in Norfolk,VA on Saturday, September 19th. See http://www.smsc-home.org/events.html.

I'm not sure if they are Central Powers, Entente, Axis, or Allies, but we added a few new ariel fighters with our inaugural purchase of D&D Attack Wing this evening. I avoided this game since its release, but the call was too strong tonight. At least the wife of my friend who owns the store gave me a piece of carmel-chocolate chip brownie pie; I am still waiting for my cookies from joining the Dark Side.

At the rate of 1 a week to paint and decal... I'll be busy for 2 years with my existing Shapeways stuff alone. Though I have rather more completed than not.

I bought the starter set too; mostly to run a Dragon hunting game at origins next year (thanks John!)

Just got around to actually counting my WWI collection - 38 Central, 41 Allied and two balloons. I think that is a good start over all. Now on to the whole storage and transport issues.

My collection has grown to 164 planes. 81 WWI and 83 WWII. With more on the way.
WWI Central Powers has a 45-36 advantage over the Entente. While WWII the Axis have a 43-40 advantage over Allies.

It's official. My WW2 collection now outnumbers my WW1 collection. After Christmas this deficit will grow to nearly double what it is now!

Having gone over to the Darkside (thank you Karl), the collection has grown to the 300+ range. My WWII collection has surpassed my WWI collection, but The Great War has a larger variety of aircraft, including some of Clipper's masterpieces. I need to add some interesting and unusual aircraft to the WWII collection.

My collection has grown, too, since I answered the poll and posted previously - but I think, perhaps, that one of the choices on the poll should have read "Never enough"...

"Never enough" and "Too Many" simultaneously - that would be my best answer.

I know I've bought ten WGF in the last few weeks. I'm not sure of the exact total but it's now about 90 models almost all of which have either been repainted or are waiting to be repainted.

With the next release coming in May/June, I'll probably break the 600 mark
lots of painting to do. Plus more storage trays.

Ready for the table, I'm in the 50-99 range at the moment, although if I ever get my Shapeways horde dealt with (mostly purchased back in the first flush of Shapeways enthusiasm c. 2011, and mostly still unpainted....) that'll go up at least one band. That said, my immediate future is a lower total - couple of things need funding, so a pile of my WGF repaints will be Ebay-bound this coming week. Of course that'll just free up space for more in the longer term, because megalomania's a bitch like that....

As a relative rookie I have been slowly but surely building a collection. I am only at 30, excluding my AIM Drachen. Three are Bombers, a recently acquired RNAS Handley Page, the Aschoff Gotha and the LaGuardia Caproni. All the rest are (mostly) Ares, with a few older Nexes and my one kit build - a Valom Nieuport 17 in the Charles Nungesser paint scheme (perhaps you have seen it on the Aerodrome). Repaints comprise only 6 of my kites, but the repaints always seem to be the favorites because of the time invested. I think I have more coming. I say I think because my brother and I (BB401 - Bob) and another "playmate", Scott Killinger, have been doing some bulk buying on EBay and dividing up after. I think I will be doing a minor repaint of the MvR DR.1 (425/17) back to the 477/17. It is an interesting mix of many colors and as I have found out, the Baron's No. 1 Dr.1 in terms of aerial victories. I find it interesting how many aircraft pilots seemed to have at their disposal. Get shot down in the morning and go back up In the afternoon and fight on - amazing!

Except WGS Series 6 (order not yet placed), still One Of Everything.

Annoying that the "Free Shipping" threshold is pegged right at the "Beancounter Approval Required" threshold... fergoshsakes, I carry one of the deadliest fighting pistols ever made and make life-and-death decisions every day and have done so virtually my entire adult life with not one lapse of judgement, and they STILL don't think I can handle the responsibility of managing my own money?! *rolls eyes*

Still redoing my inventory; I'm afraid what the count will reach

    Just did an updated count.
    WWI currently stands at 243.
    WW2 at 125
plus five balloons one Zeppelin and a Naval airship.

    Total. 368 plus the balloons.

    161 WGF
    171 WGS
    ____
    332

    + 2 balloons

Not bad for 2-1/2 years work

Interesting that I have more WGS than WGF since I haven't tried WGS yet.
The Series 9 will balance them out and put WGF ahead.

But then comes the new BoB ....

Rough estimate puts me over 400 between WGF and WGS but I won't be able to get in an inventory until September.

Just counted all of my minis:

    WGF: 39
    WGS: 34
    SoG: 12
    Total: 75 + 2 balloons (+12 ships)

That looks good. May be I am not addicted... OK, I know I am...

I have an Excel file with all of mine so I can keep track of what I have.
Started that back in 2014 when I was first collecting and having a hard time keeping track of what I was getting from various eBay sites.
Wish I had picked up a few more of certain ones when they were available ....

Good idea. I'll go spreadsheet in September. It will then be a breeze keeping track of all the little guys. Hmmm, I better list all the unpainted AIM, Shapeways, Red Eagle....this could bve scary!
