Thread: What's on your work bench for June?

Default What's on your work bench for June?

I'm gonna get flamed. And I take full responsibility in advance.

Apologies to Clipper1801 and his elves, too.

So, I'm not building this, this June or ever... But, it is an interesting idea.

I'm not buying it if it is made, either. I don't have room for my planes as it is, let alone a monstrosity like this in either 1/144 or 1/200 scale.

It would be a blast to fly the scenario, though...

    What a model Mike.
I wonder what that could lead us all into.

Nope -- the nonviability of airships had been hammered home; and reasonably-reliable trans-Atlantic flight had been hammered out by WW2.

Not much on my workbench for June I'm afraid, just painting up my Fiat BR 20.

Nothing now. Just finished glueing pegs to Litko bases for my AIM WW2 birds so can rest, relax, read some books & play a few games.

Gotta stay ahead of the Early Wars Campaign. Primed up and ready to start, a couple of FE2s, a Fokker E IV, another Rumpler C I, 4 Nieuport 11s. It will be a good start anyway.

Just what is needed for the home Zep builder Dave. Are you planning on any propellers or are they too brittle to cast?

Schaffer DVII repaint into Von Zeigesar Jasta 15. It's quite a simple repaint and even if it sounds mad I enjoy seeing the difference that painting in the wing edges in the lozenge colours makes.

I've put a wash of thinned black over the engine and guns on this DVII and this makes a massive difference to the overall look. It's certainly a step way from the silvery toy like finish of the model as supplied and more towards being a model. So I shall be attempting treat all of my planes to this minor paint work during June. There are also three Snipes to be done – minor repainting and decals adding.

Hi Neil. Hey can you tell me why you went with a shapeways model instead of a repaint of one of the Ares Albatros DII? Just curious. I've been on the fence regarding shapeways, one day wanting to order the next wanting to be content with what's available from Ares/Nexus.

As for me, I primed my 2 Valom Nieuports and have been working on a free lance Alb 2 Boelke repaint. Its coming out nicely, nowhere near as nice of work as most of you here do, but I'm happy. When I get my act together I'll put some photos in an album for all to see, and critique if you care to.

8 Fokker DVIIs to finish off, then 6 Valom ones to build.
Also, I'm cutting the pegs off the repaints I have already done in preparation for replacing them with the Oberst's ball bearings. 40+ to do!

I sat on the fence for ages, like you, about shapeways. Then I took the plunge and ordered a BE2c, FB5, Fokker DI and an Albatross DII. They were fantastic. I followed the basic prep (3 washes of watered down PVA glue with 24 hours between coats to dry) and they painted up great. I only have the Fokker to finish and I am waiting for 2 FB2's, Rumpler CI, Aviatic CI and a Pfalz DIII. I love the early wars stuff and know I can play a protracted campaign from 1915 to 1918.

A last one on the shapeways or any other manufacturer. Check the dates they flew if you pick wisely you can pick aircraft that flew from 1916 right through to 1918.

    Yeppers, me too.

So I took my Nieuport Valom kits outside today for the silver paint and promptly dropped them on the ground. AAARRGH!! Not a lot of damage but enough to make me upset with myself and my old man jitters. So got them glued up again and whilst waiting for them to dry continued work on my 2 Alb DII repaints. Really happy with how they are coming out. But the way I'm going on the Nieuports it may end up being a "Whats on your workbench for July!" project.

    So many things...
    one Zeppelin Staaken R.VI,
    two Bessonneau hangars,
one battalion of french napoleonic "légčre",
a chaos team for Blood Bowl,
    and possibly some zombicide minis.

No way to finish it all by the end of the month.

Yes Rob I agree it will be a great Early Wars campaign. I am now cherry picking aircraft that have a long life in WW1, the Aviatic and Rumpler flew on well into the 1917-18 and the FB2 was similar. Although the Pfalz was not in circulation for long I just fancied one (I'm thinking of making it a special for Oblt Biettrutoffen).

I have to find a way to get a Zeppelin. I don't know who I'd play using it (conventions? Would be a blast at BottosCon, or Enfilade 2015), or where I'd store it, but I want one.

    Dave,
Please post your camo references for the F4Fs? Squadrons and pilots?

    Dave,
Would this work for color schemes? Do you want the single color, or the two-tone camo (or one of each?)?

About two-thirds of the way down the page for RN schemes: http://www.angelfire.com/dc/jinxx1/W...F4FColors.html

I need a top view for cards, to get the roundels right, and in the right place, too.
