Well, yeah -- it was converted from a collier, USS _Jupiter_; of the other three ships of the class, both _Cyclops_ and _Nereus_ disappeared during WW1, and _Proteus_ disappeared in 1923. It's believed _Proteus_ was going to become "CV-2", however the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922 freed up the hulls of _Lexington_ and _Saratoga_ for conversion.
