Thread: Spanish Civil War Anyone

    Default Spanish Civil War Anyone

    Hi Chaps
With the release of wing kit 13 and the I-16 has anyone made any movement cards for the aircraft I know Maxheadroom has some but they are not available?
I was also looking for the card for the SAVOIA MARCHETTI SM.81 PIPISTRELLO as I have managed to get 3 of these for a game?
The Me 109's are in the box set so they were easy it is just the odd stuff that is causing the problem.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Regards Kev

The I16 was in the Revolution In The Sky card pack, which can still be found knocking around in places - seems to go for between a fiver and a tenner including postage on Ebay, and some stockists probably still have it in a dusty corner.

Neil Wing Kit 13 is from the F-toys 1/144 range of aircraft models and can be bought from Japan as a box set or picked up on ebay as one off models for around £6.00.
They are nice pre-painted kits that cover a lot of periods and are worth looking out for they snap together but I glue mine to help keep them together during gaming.

Dom thanks for the heads up on the card deck I will check it out.

Hobby Link Japan sells the F-Toys series by the case (10 per box) at a good rate. I have an order in for the next series (#14) that will be out in May. Only looking for the Italian plane but never know what you can do with a seaplane.

    Default Stuka's for SCW

    Hi Chaps
I have finished my Stuka's for SCW and thought you may want to see how they turned out they are repaints on the F-toys models in 1/144 as that is the scale we play WW2 at our club. The decals came from ebay and were produced by hurricane2plane he dose a great job and is worth looking out for.

Hi Chaps the thing that started the thread was my I-16 so I thought I should post some pictures of them as well?
They are not as flash as the Stuka's of as smart as the Me109 but they will do the job and again they are repaints of the F-toys kits?

    Kevin,
Management Card for the SM.81. Firing arcs will take a while, as I am heading down to Enfilade 2014 in Olympia, Washington for the weekend.

[EDIT: Fixed the positions and indicators to match ARES management card standards]

As best I can figure out, there are two pilots, with a single-tasked bombardier (Position III). There are no forward guns, so it may be that he is not a gunner, unless desperate. The flight engineer probably handled the dorsal turret, with the radioman/gunner handling the two waist guns (one at a time). The other member of the six-man crew must be the ventral turret gunner.

The firing arcs will be(best guess):
Dorsal turret, 300-ish degrees minus the nose at same altitude and tail blind spot, 360 degrees above.
Ventral turret, 270-ish degrees minus the nose/wing engines and fixed landing gear at the same altitude, 360 degrees below.
two waist arcs firing to the sides and rear minus the wings and tail at the same altitude, wider arcs above and below.

Anyone that has suggestions, they are welcome.

This is a modified SM.81 image, and originally came with Fascist Italian roundels. So, it can easily be produced in that version, too.

Per the firing arcs: here's what I have from the unofficial FW site:
Dorsal turret: Two 7.7mm SAFAT MG (A/A) level to high 360 minus 6:00 level (tail)
Ventral turret: Two 7.7mm SAFAT MG (A/A) low 360 except along the 4:00 and 8:00 lines.
Right waist gun: One 7.7mm SAFAT MG (A/A) 2:00 to 5:00 level only
Left waist gun: One 7.7mm SAFAT MG (A/A) 7:00 to 10:00 level only.

The tail blindspot is much narrower than the standard WGS one. in Fighting Wings, it is usually only along line of hexes coming from the tail of the plane.
    Hope this helps.

    Karl,
In something I read on the SM.81, it said that the dorsal turret couldn't fire directly to the front, as the propeller was in the way. It was an identified weakness in the design of the plane's armament. So, not possible for 360 at the same altitude. The tail is indicated as a sliver occlusion in my draft attempt.

The ventral turret wasn't as bad with the propeller, but the fixed landing gear at 10:00 and 2:00 would have been an issue at the same altitude. So, I indicated 270 to the rear as the firing arc for that turret. Not sure why the 4:00 and 8:00?

    Kevin,
    This is your plane:
[EDIT: removed, fixed card is above]

No way am I trying to "paint" that. What squadron/stormo?

Your right, Mike. The ADC designer must have gotten his clock mixed up
A same altitude BS for the front 90 degrees looks good.
The dorsal turret rides pretty high, but I'm fine with a short range BS for 12:00 at the same altitude.

    KK,
Back from Enfilade 2014, and have stopped fiddling with the Sunderland cards.

I finally straightened out the positions and layout for the SM.81, and used the ARES He-111 card to sort out the positions and layout. This should better reflect the actual layout of the plane and crew. Firing arcs are coming, as soon as I figure out how to get them to line up on the card.

The new card is in post #19 above, and I removed the bad ones. This card is in my WWII Italian Bomber Album, too.

Finally, hacked together the Plane Card for the SM.81:

    Man, bomber cards are tough.

Damage is calculated on a empty weight of 20,500 lbs. So, with my poor math, that is 10 tons X2 +12.

Hope this is close to making a few of you happy.

Hi Mike Larry only does small runs on ebay of his decals so he is worth looking out for. I can try and contact him and ask him to list them do you know what you are after Nationalist or Republican as he made all the decals for my aircraft above?
All the models are F-toys and are available on ebay or Radjapan?

    Hi Mike,

Larry (Hurricane2planes decal range is called digidecal. He mainly does WW1 Fokkers etc. He also does some WW2 types, like spitfire 1 markings designed for Bandai Spit 1 - the above wing roundels plus the squadron codes - see link attached & more in my albums (RAF)
    http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/alb...chmentid=66000

He does 3 lots at present for SCW - Ju 87B (including the red pigs for the spats), Bf 109E (Mickey Mouse & Top Hats) & I-16 (inc dice designs & Betty Boop). They are all nice & delicate. Kevin's pix show them well. You will need to supply your own planes - any commercial ones of the types would do for the Stukas & 109s. I would suggest Shapeways for the I-16 as they would be much cheaper than trying to source the Wing Kit 13 models - the Russian green one sold for about $30 recently on ebay. I would not be going for them for repaints at that price.

Larry is also a periodic seller on ebay - when he has printed up some decals. You might want to keep a lookout. (alternatively, PM me with your email address and I will send it along to him - he would probably get back to you with more details).
