Thread: Litko Flight Stand

    Default Litko Flight Stand

I have been thinking of buying some Litko stands but I had some questions that I am hoping that Litko stand owners could answer ...

If I buy the Litko stands do I also need to buy the peg toppers? I ask because the planes have a peg so I don't see how it could attach to the Litko flight stand rod.

Looking at the Litko base plate it looks like the arrow and hash mark are in opposite positions as compared to the Ares base plates. Is this true?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Richard! Yes you are correct the Arrow & Hash marks are reversed probably to overcome Copyright issues but it dosnt really make any difference in games play terms.

Whilst Keiths AA bases are much superior the Litko are much cheaper.
I have used the Litko ones & I just glue one Ares Peg (needs a slight clip of the locating peg) & then you do not need peg toppers.
I found the Litko pegs were always loose in the hole plus you cant use pegs to donate altitude.

    Hope that helps.

I have used a few Litko before moving onto the AA bases, which I prefer, for me I always found the Litko extremely tight and difficult to pull apart once on. With the toppers there is no need to do anything else to your models , except add a peg, 3 mm rod is about right.
So Yes get the toppers, it also give a small stable table for the model.
They do not work with gimbals though

I also used to use the Litko flight stands and found quite a few short comings in their system. That is what led me to design my own and to the birth of the AA store.

I own Litko explosion markers which are fine when completed (which was not easy and nice to do, however). But when it comes to bases, AA ones are top notch and I can surely recommend them. The quality must have it's price , but unless you plan to organize larger battles, one can cut costs to 6-8 bases which are enough for casual gaming. Buyers should consider choosing the two seater once; the rear arc does not spoil the base look at all.

Andy is right, those looking to save some money can by just the two-seater bases. when using them on scout type aircraft, just ignore the rear firing arch.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I think I will skip getting the Litko stands and instead buy extra pegs.

I see that AA also sells an Altitude/Climb Rate dial not incorporated into a flight stand base. I will buy that instead as I prefer to have that dial in front of me instead of on the base of my plane.

    Now to find some pegs

    Good luck with the pegs

Since you like all the info in front of you, you might want to check out the Advanced Cockpits as well (they should be restocked later this week).

I would much prefer the Advanced Cockpit, thanks.

I found these "compatible" pegs (from Battletreedesigns) on eBay for $10.00 USD. The bag I ordered has 25 white and 25 blue pegs. You can also get a bag of 50 blue pegs. Hopefully they will work fine.

Thanks for the info on those pegs. I have to post how I use them with Litko bases. I ordered the pegs when they first came out not knowing if I need them but did find a use for them.

Just orders 2 bags of these. I still have some of the ones I orders when they came out but as I said using them in other ways. Again thanks for the tip.

Before I learned of the existence of the Aerodrome and its superb flight stands, and when there were no additional supplies of Ares pegs, I bought a few Litko stands and their toppers. What I did with the topper was to glue it to the flight stand, with the Ares compatible hole over the hole in the stand. That way I could insert the Ares pegs directly without having to sacrifice any by clipping the bottom. I still have them, but my subsequent needs were more than met by the AA.

I use Litko stands for the 1/144 (F-Toy) planes I have. I will start another thread on the way I started with them and the final way I mount the planes.

The order came on Saturday and they fit well with the ARES pegs. Helps with how I mount the 1/144 planes I have. Thanks again for letting us know about them.

Here is a picture of a B-25 and a Helen mounted on a Litko large bomber base with a 4" flight peg. I drill a hole in the plane and glue the peg in place. This is permanent and one of the first attempt with 1/144 bombers. I also scored a firing arch on the base for the Helen.

After trying different mountings I came up with this. I glue a peg with a shortened peg to a Litko base. I then drill a hole in the plane and glue a 3/16 bearing in the hole. I mount a 1/4x1/8x1/4 magnetic ring on a Likto peg (I have been using 2" pegs). I then attach a Ares flight peg to the bottom (you have to sand both ends for the ring and peg to fit). This gives you a 2.5" flight peg to attach to the plane. With the base w/peg, 1 peg and the 2.5" the height is 4". This can be adjusted higher with the addition of more pegs.

The Wildcat has a permanent peg mounted to the base but has the ring/ball magnet mount.

This is what I did before I thought of the magnets. They are permanently mounted to the base and plane.

This is another thought I had where the Litko peg (4") is attached to the base with the magnetic mounts as above.

    Bob,

That is an outstanding idea and thank you for sharing. I will have to do some tinkering on my end using your idea.

You can get the mounts here or search the web. I get mine from K&J Magnets. Have had good service when I ordered them.

I have some Litko bases and I've glued a 3.2 mm magnet on the top of the perspex rod. All my unofficial planes have 3.2mm magnets underneath which I prefer to pegs anyhow. I've also got some Litko toppers with a 3.2mm magnet in one of the holes so I can use a pegged plane on a Litko base if I want. I can also use gimbles as they go straight on the peg with the magnet. Saying all that, I usually use an official base from a different plane and the Litko ones stay in the drawer.

I use the official bases for all the Nexus/Ares planes. I just use the Likto bases with the 1/144 planes I have. Rich S. uses a different mounting for his. I think we all have a way of mounting our planes.

I have some of the toppers as well... they work great! And, this way, you don't need to remove the peg from "official" aircraft and seat bearings in their place.

I have to take a photo of what I did with a topper and explain it.
