Thread: which nations planes do you want supported most by ares?

  1. #1

Wink which nations planes do you want supported most by ares?

OK so 2 answers! The nation you MOST want to play as, even if it is already well supported, and your second choice as well.

The 2 most appealing nations for you to play as.

I have only included nations already included. re my usage of axis/allied france and Italy, I don't know a lot about this and apologise if I could have used better terms!!

(Whoops you can't edit a poll! looks like you can select as many as you like. Try and stick to 2!)

when i first decided to post this, I thought it would be straightforward, but there are so many intricacies to consider! So I've kept it a bit surface. Not a lot of detail. Its only meant to be a general gauge of interests.

I've voted Britain and Germany, as that was my parents war. I am also mildly interested in the Burma campaign as an uncle (RE) and aunt (WRN) were out there, but income draws the line for me

I too would love to see the aussies represented but we've already seen beaufighters and P40's and P-51's come out with no aussie markings, I doubt we will see them on any other versions... I also didn't add us to the list as there are many other nations not yet represented, it would be a complex poll if I included them all!

USSR, Norway . USSR because they were major player , Norway because of family ties.

My choices, for the little I'm trying to dabble in WWII (I'm resisting, unsuccessfully), are for the Battle of Britain planes. I'm discovering that getting by with Spits and Bf109s really isn't enough. I "need" Hurricanes, Stukas, He111s, ....

Very hard choice for only 2 votes. I have to agree that Italian would be good and some other Russian. Also maybe some Spanish CW planes painted for that time. My vote though was USA & Germany.

  13. #13

    Default

British and Japanese. But I would also vote for Italians, Germans, and USA.

  14. #14

    Thumbs up

I voted USA & Japan as my main interest in WW2 is the Pacific as Australia was really heavely involved.
I can always repaint British & US aircraft for my Aussie squadrons & I guess Ares would find their appeal quite small although I know Sven & Andy like flying Aussie aircraft whilst the rest of us Aussies are rather biased.

I voted for the under represented (in the game) USSR. I want to organize and play more eastern front scenarios.

I really love the look of the later Italian fighters, the "5" series. Really aggressive look coupled with top notch performance with the German 12 cylinder DB 601.

I don't think anyone is surprised that Germany and UK are the top two! but I am intrigued by USSR's current tie for third place with USA!

Ares should not especially support any of the nations' planes. There is no need for that and I do not feel like casting my vote for any of the options. What is lacking in their policy (if there is any) is focusing on periods and/or theatres.
If you recall their second starter set you should remember that any of the four planes included were not able to fight any other (could not meet each other in the air) historically. Bizarre.

If you didn't limit the time for the poll, you'll get votes months and years after the creation of this thread.

I'm not surprised about Germany's leading role here.

I thought the US planes would make it it on the second place.

Maybe because of the next WGS series 6 with Dauntless & Thunderbolt and the special pack Fortress the UK made it so far.

Andrzej I agree with you it would have been much smarter to do a poll on the theatres as opposed to the nations!!
would you like to make that poll? I wouldn't have enough knowledge to make it well. I think the point of this is not at all to pressure Ares towards a particular direction, its more just to get a basic idea of peoples interests!

I had a tough time casting my vote in this poll. Even though it turned out I could vote for three, I just voted for one nation, that being Russia. Obviously, I would like to see the more widely seen U.S. planes like the Thunderbolt, F6F & Lightning, but I like all of the various nations aircraft that were heavily used in the war.

I wound up just voting for Russia because I feel like there is a definate lacking of Russian designed and built aircraft represented in the game. I don't know a whole lot about WWII Russian fighter aircraft, but I would think the La-3/La-7 fighters could be added at a minimum.

The reason I feel this way, is that having gone ahead and started collecting planes for this game in 1/144 scale several years ago, I have noticed over the past 4-5 years, that Russian planes, even in 1/144 scale, are sorta rare to see. I just this past week was able to order the newly released F-Toys I-16. In my 1/144 scale collection, which is at 198 planes ready for play, and another 55 or so waiting to be built or put together, I have only three Russian designed and built aircraft. Those being a trio of Cafe Reo Il-2 Sturmovicks, another trio of I think F-Toys Yak-9s, and then recently Zvezda's La-3 kit.

To me, while there are still some big U.S. planes that need to be added to the game, from a 1/200 scale point of view, there are even more Russian aircraft that could/should be added as well.

Eventually, I would love to see as many planes as possible added to the game, but I still have fresh in my mind Nexus's attempt to do the WWII side of the game, and how badly that went. I strongly feel that the more iconic planes should be done first, and I would even go as far as to say that for the success of the game, that the iconic planes of those nations that make up the target market for Ares should be made first. Which may be why we have seen just the Yak-3 so far.

I voted for Japan and USA, just because I'm into that right now. I'm getting them all cause I really like the game.

I just learned about the 'revolutions in the sky' booster card pack that Wings of War originally had, which featured the Polikarpov I-16 (gonna have to buy some!) I wonder how well this sold and if it flopped? causing low trust in Soviet planes selling ability? That being said, Ares did come out with the Yak in their first ww2 series

Funny thing to read this post tonight. I just received 2 F-Toys I-16 this evening! Of course, I"m a 1/144 scale WoG player/collector, and...I think that is a fitting description of myself. A "player/collector", seems to be appropriate. I love playing the game, but I have just as good a time collecting planes and building them.

I've been waiting for a 1/144 scale I-16 ever since that revolutions in the sky booster came out. Just a few days prior, I received a pair of Brewster Buffalos, in Finnish colors, that should make for a good adversary.

If Ares wanted to reach the Russian market, then they ought to do like they have with the P-51 for the U.S. market, and do a Yak-9 or La-7, or something along those lines.

I have still got the plane cards from this booster pack Evan as I only wanted the maneuver cards from it. I don't do Russian. If you would like any of them in particular just drop me a P.M.

Other, having in mind Royal Yugoslav Airforce for April War 1941 (Me 109, Rogozarski IK-3, Savoia Marchetti SM 79, Bristol Blenheim Mk.I, Dornier Do 17K...), and aircraft of Spanish Civil War.

USSR (Polikarpov Po-2, Polikarpov I-16 Rata, Ilyushin IL-2 Shturmovik...)

Axis Italy (FIAT G.50bis*, Savoia Marchetti SM 79)
    *Perhaps in Finnish service, also

    Ivan,
You really should start your own poll.

PS: If the rumors are correct, we should have a Russian P-39 in the "near" future. "Near" in quotations, because that really has no meaning when use with Ares. We saw hints of a Corsair four years ago, and thought we'd see a plane in a few months.

Give Ivan a break, OldGuy. He's new here, and may have new views on old issues. I can sympathize, being a noob myself. Many of us have wished Ares would release more models sooner.

I'd suggest making the most of what *is* available, such as Zvezda's excellent series of 1/200 scale WWII models, most of which can be used on the Eastern Front:

    https://www.scalehobbyist.com/manufa...sc=200&man=zve

The New Ray F4U Corsair will meet my needs until Ares gets around to releasing theirs. It's even pre-painted:

Ivan, this is a hobby where hustling pays off!

Italians. Italians. And then some more Italians. It would be nice to have some planes involved on the Eastern Front, and some variety for Malta. An Italian bomber would be nice too.
