Default Great site for mission cards and custom planes

Perhaps you already know this blog, but just in case here's the link

    http://cockpit-traditions.blogspot.com/

Het is a french guy really talented in graphic skills, and he has uploaded a lot of custom planes and mission cards to his blog, mostly ww2. They are really, really good, professional class cards.

Yeah, he has some cool custom planes. I myself printed his B-17's but yet have to test them in a mission. I'm also looking forward for torpedo rules to get a use for that japanese Kate (I'm playing too much battlestations: pacific lately (XD), want to sink ships. Badly).

Yes, I check his site out from time to time. I've invited him to this site, but have never heard back from him. If anyone knows him, drag him over here! lol

Yes, wildcard! Big bombers are a fun addition for mission design. Interception/escort missions are great.

But I resized Het's B17 because it would be too big to use in a reasonable size table. Although it's correctly scaled with DoWs fighter cards, you have to sacrifice some realism for playability.

Btw, you'll find some more bombers in the files section here in wingsofwar... although not as good as Het's ones, by far.

all the more reason to use 1/300 scale models... Same as the pics on the cards by the way (exept the airocobra for some reason).

I know! they don't look so nice, and you'll have to custommake anything, but the sizes, the price everything else fits wonderfully.

Have you ever tried Avalon Hill's B17 Queen of the Skies? - long out of print but you can still pick up copies on ebay and theres an emulator program out there too. Plus variants for B24, Lancaster and Halifax campaigns.

    Great fun!

    Great fun!
I would agree, I have a copy myself and even though it was published back in 1981 <My Highschool Graduation Year> by On Target Games, with Avalon Hill picking it up in 1983, I still take it out and play it every now and then.

It's a shame they haven't updated it and re-released it, it's still very popular and actively discussed over at BGG Here if you find one that is supposedly in good condition you're probably looking at $70.00 USD for it.

Though there is some book keeping and chart lookups involved and it's pretty much a "Dice Fest" one gets this sense of feeling good when your crew and plane survive and live for another day. You actually feel bad if one of your crew members takes one for the team after having flown a good number of missions (crew members receive a bonus after their 10th mission) or if your favorite plane doesn't it make it home after flying 10 missions itself. Even if it's not a RPG perse - I would do some research on real B-17's and create my planes and crew names based on them and fly similar missions.

Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever made it the full 25 missions with the starting crew or the plane being intact. Actually, Not to many of them did it during the war as well.

Another Game based on B-17 QOTS <one that I have as well and play just as much> and one that is a bit easier to locate since it was just published in 2008 is: B-29 Superfortress- Bombers Over Japan, 1944-1945

It's another good solitare game but this one is a bit more indepth, with more charts and a deeper level of play and much harder since your goal is to complete 35 missions (set by the 20th airforce in the spring of 1945, much to the disappointment of the crews who had hoped for 30!). Heck in this one I've had Planes and Crews go down during their shake-down runs over Truk Island and these runs don't even count towards the crews combat mission tour. Read more about it here.

Check here the publisher has it for sale for $48 USD but, I know you can find it cheaper online at other resellers.

Edit: Good thing I did some checking around after the post... seems that Khyber Games sold their business to Legion Wargames You can find info over there for B-29.

    Cheers
