All good fun - Coalition victorious but not without some pain ! Today my son came round and we played the Gears of War board game so it's been a weekend of gaming !
I have started PTO & ETO campaign stickys as running the whole thing in one would be messy !
Will be on late most of this week as doing a little invigilating to fill the gaming coffers.
Welcome Steel Legion (Louis) from USA to the campaign. Flying for the Luftwaffe during BoB.
See you on the Dark Side......
BoB Stats:
RAF: 84 aircraft - 96 pilots and crew. 6 Players.
Luftwaffe: 58 aircraft - 141 pilots and crew. 4 Players.
See you on the Dark Side......
Thank you, I am looking forward to the fun.
Welcome to the WW II solo campaign, Louis.
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
I was just wondering how these missions progress, I know in OTT we did a mission once a month and the Campaign date moved on by a month at a time, the mission was also dated. How will we know what date/month/year we are operating in and when will it change? Thanks in advance.
Neil is it possible to have an Axis Squadron as well as a RAF one in ETO Campaign?
Fill your boots, I am. As for dates do we need to go firm? Some will play fewer missions don't see why others can't play more but two weeks between scenario's gives us about 12-15 missions to play around with for BoB:
- 10 July – 11 August: Kanalkampf, ("the Channel battles"). 3 scenarios.
- 12–23 August: Adlerangriff ("Eagle Attack"), the early assault against the coastal airfields. 2-3 scenarios.
- 24 August – 6 September: the Luftwaffe targets the airfields. The critical phase of the battle. 2-3 scenarios.
- 7 September onwards: the day attacks switch to British towns and cities. (27th Sept last action over Britain) 2-3 scenarios.
Of course these are minimums. Additional scenarios could be posted and played whenever.
Neil
See you on the Dark Side......
Neil. That seems okay with me.
I only have a Fighter Squadron, Jagdgeschwader 2 Staffel 3 Operating Bf 109’s from bases in Cherbourg and Normandy. So it going to be hard for me to do any bombing of ship yards unless I escort some bombers. But here is a Freie Jagd (Fighter Sweep) Mission that I have played in the past. I was thinking about doing it again with After Action Report for the Campaign.
Date: September 30, 1940 Mission: Freie Jagd (Fighter Sweep)
Axis Player Briefing
Fly West of the Isle of Wight and engage any air targets located.
Players Forces
You command at least 2 Messerschmitt Bf 109’s
Players Mission
Seek and Destroy
Allied Player Briefing
Intercept incoming flight west of the Isle of Wight
Players Forces
You command at least 2 Spitfires or Hurricanes
Players Mission
Destroy incoming flight
Scenario is based on this: 30 September, 1940: Shortly after noon, during a Freie Jagd mission west of the Isle of Wight, JG 2 pilots were intercepted by British fighters from 609 and 56 Sqdns. Uffz. Kurt Bühligen, of 6./JG 2, and Ltn. Franz Fiby, of 3./JG 2, claimed a Spitfire each (for Fiby the first victory since 6 June). Hptm. Helmut Wick continued to add to his score, the pair of fighters shot down on this engagement taking his total to 34, while his 'Katschmarek', Oblt. Rudolf ‘Rudi’ Pflanz, brought down a Hurricane for his 5th victory. It was probably at this engagement that Fw. Wilhelm Hermes, a 10-victory Experte from 2. Staffel, was lost, one of the four casualties suffered on this day by the ‘Richthofen’ Geschwader. — at Isle Of Wight, UK.

Thats fine Neil, its just me being an idiot I was thinking the campaign would go on. I will have to pull out my Beaufighter Squadron as it doesn't appear until late 41, that was the only reason I was asking about the dates Maybe I'll send them to Malta when the time is right.
I will form an Axis Squadron and jump into the Norway Campaign.
Sorry for the disruption.

Paul,
they called them
Oberkommando der Luftwaffe
Luftflotten
Geschwader
in WW II.
Jagdgeschwader or JG for fighters
Kampfgeschwader for bombers
Schlachtgeschwader for dive bombers and ground attack planes
etc.
The most famous in North Africa was JG 27.
Voilŕ le soleil d'Austerlitz!
Ah you saw through my deliberate mistake in naming them Jasta Thanks for the heads up on the info and links to one and all. Time seems to be limited so trawling the WWW is not always an option. a recommendation from knowledgable friends is always a great help

I mistankenly posted my AAR for the first pre-mission, named "BoB Prequel 1: Mantain the pressure !" on the AAR section, and not on the Fire in the Skies section, can you move it to the right place ?
Still no spreadsheets for me Dave.

They're moving against us like a dark rain.
To each move we make, to each of stand we take, to each effort to stop them...
They make a counter-move, they level our defenses, they crush our will.
Day after day, more and more, only an island stands against them...
I can see a massive scenario in the making here, Quim! I am affraid I must leave my post for several days to face the winter in the southern part of Europe. But will check the BoB status when time allows
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Holidays or work, Andy?
Where?
A short ski-break, with family and friends from Warsaw I will post some greetings from the place You know, family duties call me...
But I can see you have a nice flight of Heinkels! Last weekend I made an effort to repaint the "winter" one into a "desert" one. Will have to post it later on.
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Excellent.
I want to see the photos.
Excellent holidays for you, my friend.
Looks as if we are in for some really good Dog fights there Joaquim.
As for Andy swanning off for a break. we will have to join him for the Apres ski.
Have a good break Andy.
Rob.
