    Default WW2 ALTITUDE RULES

    Hello,

I have quite alot of miniatures and when I take this game to my gaming group we will all be playing it for the first time.

Dawn of war comes with altitude counters and the rules list ceiling limits which are typically 11, 12 13 etc.

How do people show aircraft height in the game. Each aircraft comes with 4 pegs. Is each peg representing 1 height value or does each peg represent more than 1 height value.

Do people use the pegs for height or just the height counters?

For example how would I show on the playing area that my Spitfire had an height of 10?

It all depends on what alt rules you play with. Simplified alt rules include just 4 levels of alt while "flying higher" advanced rules adopt all 10+ levels. I have not seen anybody playing the latter. That would take ages to get into a shooting distance. When you play simpler alt rules you can adjust the number of pegs or use tokens or order AA smart bases with "clock" like rings with numbers

I use twelve sided dice. It works pretty good.

Litko makes altitude counters that fit on the base around the pegs.

AND the Aerodrome's store also has bases with altitude markers:

Last year at the World championships I chased a climbing aircraft upward for the whole game and never got a shot off. We ended up at something like 12 pegs high much to the consternation of the other players, who had to maneuver around the unstable stack of pegs. I should stick with the four pegs, and just nominate the heights which they represent. I use the AA bases on all my aircraft and it saves the problem of having counters all over the shop.
You could of course use the simple one peg or two system which obviates all the fuss with counting at all.

Four pegs with alt counters is how we do it as I find having loads of Pegs a pain plus you have to fudge the ranges to 3-5 peg difference half range anyway.
We use you can change a chit on each card using the slow speed line for climbing fast speed line for diving - makes banking climb dives possible and sticking to the one steep manauver stops it getting stupid.
