Thread: can anyone remember these

  1. #1

    Default can anyone remember these

Having a conversation with a friend about what was the first plastic model kits we built ,I remembered having a couple of kits in the early 70's which contained 2 aircraft and a plastic frame .The idea was you built the models ,put the box lid picture into the frame then the 2 model aircraft attached to the frame in an reenactment of the dog fight on box lid painting . No one else remembers these can any one on here and if so what make they were . ?

Not that I had any, so this is pure guesswork, but the only thing I can think of like that was the 1/72 scale Airfix 'Dogfight Doubles' which included some WWI subjects. From memory they had a frame, but I'm not sure that had anything to do with the box lid.

It does sound familiar. I'll look in my old pile of Airfix Magazines to see if they were ever advertised or reviewed there.

The old Revell releases had box art that was supposed to be framed, but don't ever remember them doing two aircraft in a box. Other than the Airfix Dogfight Doubles this doesn't ring any bells.

Doing some trawling it seems that in addition to Airfix, FROG did some 1/72 'dogfight doubles' too. It'd help to know what scale you're talking about: 1/72, 1/144, an/other.

Don't remember those kits as that was when I went into the Army. Prior to that I remember many great kits that I build in different scales.

Which just goes to reinforce the urban myth about military assimilation and lobotomies!

Bob, that's a generalization, and not in any way directed at you, but I just couldn't resist the opportunity.

I remember the Airfix 'Dogfight Doubles' but I cannot remember anything along the lines you descibed when I was making plastic kits back in the 60's.
