Nice. My two favourite 2-seaters.
So are they releasing these at the same time as the Series 2 reprints?
Great looking birds Herr Oberst.
I will get my order in tomorrow. It's a bit late tonight for doing that.
By the way, have you any idea what bases of yours would be right for the Halberstadt?
It looks like an ordinary two seater arc one will do!

Looks like a standard 2 seater base to me...
W00T! Guynemer's Spad, Bristol F.2b's, Halberstadt CL.II's!!! All look great!
Woo Hoo - celebrated the site being back up by ordering my set
They look great. However, I thought that the halberstadt rear gunner would have been given a wider field of fire more or less equivalent to the Roland rear gunner because the top wing is so low. If you look at the photographs in Janes Fighting Aircraft of WW1 you will see what I mean.
Spad 7s and Alb D2, along with the DH2 and Halb DIII will really round out 1916. Need the Roland CII, RE8 and N17 and it will be complete! Cant wait to get these. To pre-order, is that done on the regular site? I may just wait to get them at the Soldiery.
Kirk, Pre-ordering is done in the normal way on the AA site. You guys play a lot at the Soldiery, so supporting them is a good option as well. Before I started selling the miniatures through the AA site, I bought my sets from the local game store and any doubles/repaints from online. Spitting the Series 50/50 is the best way to support two stores if one finds them self in that boat.

Rob, I should have advanced production samples of these birds in about a months time. Not positive that they will include production bases or not though.
And for those doing the math, that would make them a late Jan release.
Pre-order is in.
End Jan? So much for it being a Christmas present.
Who am I kidding? I won't be playing with them until May, anyway, what with my College courses.
Mike
Ahhhh....12 more planes to welcome to my hanger.
Note that the Albatros D.II has 14 Damage - the Unofficial Aircraft Committee gave it 15 in a lineball decision. So we'll change it to 14, the D.I to 13.
Apart from that, the stats for both new types appear the same - the V deck is the stats committee's J* deck, apparently.
The timing for me should be just about right for my birthday in March.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Gotta get me some of those (and of course I will). Love the D.II and the SPAD VII, both sorely needed!
They soon will be mine.....
And ordered Maybe they'll turn up in time for my birthday (early Feb) - at least, that's the excuse I shall use with SWMBO (and I hope that works )
My preorder PayPal receipt has been read by my dear and I had to calm her down: "Easy, darling, these are $ not €."
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Wow! Nice...
Great time for me to come back up for air! Looks like I'll need to make more room on the shelf...
Btw... cheers, mates! It's been far too long.

Just in case you had never heard of Eustace Headlam: http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/B02177/?image=2
Make sure that you also click on the link to Image 1 on the page - it is a closer view of image 2. Maybe digitally enhanced?

Wow! The SPADS look great but don't the CLII's look brilliant. The colours are so WW1, lived in sort of faded look. I'm really impressed. Less keen on the observer hiding but I might drill him out and replace with a figure.
Slightly disappointed by the Bristol Fighter. I'll buy a few and do some repainting to improve but at least there is a good model for the repainters. It's easy enough to wash some thin black paint over the silver guns and to paint int he grey engine cowling to give a bit more interest. The ID decals will be easy enough to paint over and add new ones. I also really like the DII and might look at pushing my collection earlier to justify these.
All-in-all a very strong showing I think and one that bodes really well for the future, after what I felt was a relatively lack Lustre series 6 (SSD's aside – they were fabulous).
Oh man. Just when I think I have more than enough WW1 planes, these are announced. 2 seaters....... It's clear that's exactly what I am missing in my life.
Is it just me, or are those lovely mini's aeroplane pornography to any one else?
Totally exiting! With all of the lovely WW2 planes I was starting to worry the WW1 set was taking a back seat. Clearly not!
Now they need to reprint the balloon busters set, I really want one of those!
Wish they would have come up with a more vibrant D.II. Certainly some of these survived to receive colorful individual markings more common with the D.III?
Also, could someone explain the blue tone of the Brit Spad?
Absolutely love the CL, and the FB.2 looks the part as well!
I can neither confirm nor contradict that point, but Zoe has already touched on this here: http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...-D-II-Markings
Hope that helps!
At last - ever since I first saw the game I have wanted the Bristol Fighter.... happy at last, now all we need is the Mosquito for the WWII version
Wow... blown away with the quality of the paint jobs. My budget (too many kickstarters around Xmas time I'm afraid) will prohibit me from ordering all of them but this is the first set in a long time that I would if I could. The Haberstadt paint jobs are particularly good.
woot woot!!! 12 more planes for me
nice...
what is the difference (in the mini's look I mean) if any between SPAD-XIII and SPAD-VII (besides the fact that the later is armed with only one MMG)?
weren't the SPAD-VII wings more 'ronunded' on the edges? (or was it SPAD-XIII early type?)
I can't find it right now Ezekiel, but there is a thread on here somewhere all about the difference between the two.
Rob.

Pretty similar. I wonder... would a pilot engaged with a SPAD be able to tell the difference?
So it's not just me. I was wondering what I was missing.
From the pictures, the only significant difference I see is around the engine when looking at the planes from the side.
These might be of interest:

I think the date of the engagement and the unit markings on the SPAD would be a bigger indication to the enemy pilot as to what he might be facing than the looks alone. I think the tail section is different enough to for a learned pilot to distinguish between the two.
Per a couple of other info sources, though visually similar in many aspects the VII and the XIII differed in several important aspects. Both were based on the same airframe, thus the appearance was strikingly similar. The speed, ceiling, and armament were improved in the XIII.
Introduced in August 1916, the VII topped out at 17500 ceiling with a Hispano-Suiza 8A V8 (150hp)...top speed was 119 mph...carried 1 Vickers .303 mg. Produced 5600...it was in service thru late 1917.
Introduced in September 1917, the XIII was faster and meaner...reached a 21800 ceiling with a larger His-Suiz 8BEc 8 liquid cooled inline 8 (235hp)...top speed was 138 mph...and carried bigger punch of two Vickers .303mg. Produced 8400...it was in combat thru the end of hostilities.
The two planes are virtually identical visually...the XIII is larger by a few inches in all dimensions...but has improved speed, power, endurance and firepower...plus improved vision for the pilot.
On a gaming table unless you have the microscopic eyesight to see the second Vickers on the XIII the only difference will be in the performance.
At least that's what I've found so far. Hope that helps.

The shape of the tail fins is the most noticeable difference.
Well judging from the above pictures, the only noticeable difference I can see will be on the flight stand.
That's not a complaint mind you.....always welcome new planes.
I've got a couple of questions about the upcoming releases, specifically in relation to their coloration.
I am assuming that the Bristol F.2B (Harvey/Waight) kite is representative of many F.2B squadrons. What about the Arkell/Skagg model? Does this represent a Brisfit employed as a nightfighter? And the two-tone coloring on the Headlam/Beaton bird? Was that common? And I have similar questions concerning the Halberstadt and SPAD models.
If I was considering some easily modify-able versions of these upcoming models (with the desire to field multiple kites from the same squadron), to which should I be looking?
If anyone has some expertise in this area, I'd greatly appreciate a little guidance.
Thanks!
Chris
I like the Halberstatds and Spads alot. I use 2 of the Halberstadt schemes for my personal skins in Rise of Flight. I'm getting a lot of kills in the Halb but I have twin Spandaus and Parabellums....too bad Ares is not making an A/A version.
