Don't fully understand as my account shows started 16.10.21 stopped 17.10.13

    1. Does this mean my annual subscription has been cancelled or stopped?
    2. If I re-sign up will my previous monthly contributions still be paid, ie twice?
    3. If my subscription has been cancelled has this been passed on to PAYPAL or do I have to concel it with them before starting again?
See you on the Dark Side......

Neat! I'm diggin' that coin. As soon as I can get money into my paypal account again, I'm in.
(And as an FYI, when I click into this thread I get prompted for my username/password even though I am currently logged in.)

That's a relief - glad it hasn't gone for production yet; it's "seize" not "sieze".

If you have started a subscription before I made this post, do not do anything on your end until I work it out personally with you. "Donation Subscriptions" are completely separate from these new membership subscriptions.

I will look into your issue and PM you.

I'm not sure why the PM link is asking you guys to login again. Just ignore it please.

If you delete a photo in your album, it will also be removed from any thread or other site you have posted it in/to. They all point back to the original image in the album. Sending you a PM.

If you guys are finding your self sort of PM space, make sure you do not have a bunch of old PMs sitting in your Sent box. Those count towards the limits as well.

OK, just so we're clear, I'm on board with this.
    Now a questions:
Will there be something on our profiles to tell us when we need to re-up (for the slower of thinking), or maybe a PM reminder.

Dumb Question: Does a paid subscription count toward "site donation" medals?

(Oh, and in the announcement: It's "affect", not "effect". ;) )

  22. #22

Well, I'm in. WAS trying for a monthly just this month and next until it's a more convenient time to go Annual, but PayPal set it up as an automatic recurring--how do I fix that?

It's not about being cheap, but about cash flow and controlling WHEN money moves.

Keith earlier in the week I decided to act, and am now currently making a small donation of 5 USD a month to the sight through paypal. I am after reading this thread unsure as to what to do next? So with a typical laid back Aussi attitude, I will do nothing untill you have given me further instructctions

I clicked on "Settings", then on "Attachments" at the bottom of the list on the left. It is showing me at 17.12MB, which makes sense as I have a couple of albums.

Karl, they are setup as reoccurring subscriptions. No need to remember as it "re-ups" at the end of each month or year depending what the member selected. You can of course stop it at anytime through your Paypal account.

No to the donation medals, but we are going to be making a separate medal just for subscribing. That way you have a chance to earn two medals if you like to collect them. I just ask that you give us some time to design and code the new medal.

You can stop your subscription at anytime via your Paypal account. The easiest way to do it is to find one of the payments you already made and open the details for it. Then towards the top left of those details, there is a like to cancel it.

Doug, I've already got you setup as a UK Gold Member based on that subscription. I'll send you a PM sometime over the next several days about converting the Paypal portion to this new system.

I'll PM you in the next day or so, but for now just use the site like normal as you are already setup as a Gold Member.

Can't upload pics. I'm being told I do not have the rights, permission or otherwise.

Skafloc, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
    2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

    Log Out Home

Just found out I'm using 581mb of photo storage, that could be the problem.

I could not upload any pictures, checking my settings I saw that I'm using 10.7 MB. So yesterday I signed up on a silver account. Today my status has not changed. How long should I wait? Will I receive a confirmation? I opted for annual payment, if in the future I want to switch to a Gold account, how do I proceed?

These AARs below now have no pictures. There may be more, I didn't have the heart to search more. I feel like every new AAR will come at the price of one of your old ones disappearing Neil. I suggest we all hold off on deleting further images until Herr Oberst weighs in on this sort of issue.

Perhaps this will get them to resize them first so that each photo, while still the same size for viewing, will be smaller in disk space size.

If needed, I volunteer to write up some tutorials on how to easily resize images. There is a dead easy way to resize everything in a directory with Photoshop. I'll figure it out in Gimp if needed. I also know of a few other free programs that will do this sort of thing automagically.

So, can you do something about the memory limitations for existing users; maybe anyone with 500 rep gets Gold Member settings? I suspect a lot of them will buy subscriptions either way, but right now it seems you're basically telling a lot of members that they can no longer contribute in the way they have been unless they buy a Gold Membership. I don't think that's the message you're trying to send, but I know it's one I'm not keen to support.

I don't know anything about your back end, but it seems we've gone from 0 to 60 on this membership thing pretty fast, and maybe we could give it a few weeks to see if you really need to cut back so much, or if there's enough support for some increased capacity to relax the planned restrictions a little.

    Well said Todd.
I think it's very sad that some people are having to chop out photos already to accommodate the new even with Gold membership - it's a loss to all - what if they chose to chop out their painting/how to pics ?! Perhaps the membership should be based on selling an extra 50 or 500mb attachment allotment to what the punters have already then this dilemma won't occur.

Well most computer monitors display 1080 pixels wide by 768 high, so that's really the upper limit for most purposes. Looking at AAR posts here, the maximum width that will show properly is 2/3 of that, 720 pixels - any larger and the system has to shrink them to fit on the screen anyway. So I'd suggest that for most purposes, anything larger than 720 x 512 pixels is actually pretty wasteful - obviously there are times when you'll want to use larger, chiefly so people can zoom in on the detail when showing aircraft markings or something, but 720 x 512 is probably the best "default" size to aim for.

[Edit: Having just had a quick check I'm behind the times, and higher resolutions are the norm now - up to 1680 or so being pretty normal, which would display 1024 pixel wide photos in an AAR thread, for instance. So I guess 1024 might be a better upper limit, but to be honest I'd probably stick with 640 or 720 for every day AAR posts etc.]

Of course I'm tracking issues like this and will make adjustment when and how I can to best serve the site.

Unfortunately, the software does not work like that. You have to set a hard limit that applies to everyone, no a limit based on each person.

If you are a Gold member, the site will resize your image to 1000px (800px for Silver)on the longest side for viewing in a thread or album. What it does not do is resize the actual file that you upload. So if you upload an image file that is say, 3472px on it's longest side, it will take up a lot more disk space, but users will still only see it at 1000px.

Short answer, resize to 1000px on the longest side.

Thanks for all the support and understanding everyone!
