As far as extra curricular activities go - think that sounds like my cue (especially as there are places I haven't been barred from yet)... would be good idea to collate a few ideas (apart from BEER - which is a bit of a no-brainer (especially after several pints lol)... Am sure at some point someone will mention Curry as well... I can certainly see to booking places etc. we have a while yet but a group meal etc on the Saturday seems like a good idea.. I know a few places...
most odd, I could see the Avon flight banners, now they have dissapeared, only Opole banner remains
does the midlands have a banner?
surely our glorious WingCo deserves one?
Click on Settings in the top right, then Edit Signature over on the left in one of those blocks of links. Below where you put your "Once more into the breach..." text, you will see a way to upload an image. The tricky part the site does not tell you is you have to put the code below into that same text box where you want the image to appear:
Just cut and paste that code and you should be good.Code:[sigpic][/sigpic]
hotel campanile for the two nights booked
good to try out new games
mainly play WW2 but would like to try WW1
Not much of a bar at the Campanile - am sure I can find somewhere better for us to share a few beers...
Good man we need a Recce of a watering hole to support us all, maybe one with a gin lake for a certain WingCo
Saturday night RV for meal and drinks?
See you on the Dark Side......
Don't you mean Friday night for drinks and then we could all go out for a meal and more drinks on the Saturday - I can book somewhere nearer the time once we know exact numbers and peoples preferences (Italian, Chinese, Indian, kebab van in the market place etc etc etc)

It's a go for curry then! Excellent, rogan josh and onion bhajis...

For me it will probably be Pie and chips, fish and chips, or Lamb shank, and chips.
Kyte will have what I'm having, excepting he sometimes likes a Chicken Tarka.

Anything goes for me just remember to pick me up and get me home
There is also a recently opened, and very nice fish and chip restaurant-converted from old main fire station - big place great food (and licensed) and within staggering distance of most of the hotels people have mentioned... doesn't get much more English (or Yorkshire) than fish 'n chips ( and no Gothas about to interrupt proceedings)
Think I will take it upon myself (strictly for the good of the team you understand) to personally try out every eatery and beer selling venue within staggering distance in the coming months just so I am in a position to make a proper recommendation to all our guests... wish me luck
Just a thought - if anyone arriving on the Friday Vulcan XH558 - the last flying Vulcan is housed at nearby Doncaster (ex-RAF Finnngley) Airport and it is open to the public. I will be making a pilgrimage as not only is this an iconic piece of aeronautical history, but on a personal level my brother in law flew Vulcans out of Finningley. We could also visit the Cooper & Griffon pub in nearby Bawtry that serves its new 'Vulcan Ale' - Now this is something I approve of... donating to charity by drinking beer - it just doesn't get any better..

The Vulcan to the Sky Trust and the Cooper and Griffin Real Ale House and Wine Bar are launching a new beer to celebrate Doncaster’s own XH558, the last flying Avro Vulcan. The XH558 Vulcan Bomber Beer (4% AVB) will be presented at the Bawtry Revival Festival this bank-holiday weekend where connoisseurs and Vulcan fans alike will be able to get their first taste.
“The Avro Vulcan is a symbol of lasting British spirit and power and we wanted an outstanding and thoroughly British Beer that will appeal to the traditional and patriotic real ale fans out there,” says Robert Pleming, Vulcan to the Sky Trust’s chief executive. “This new beer is a fantastic traditional bitter that we hope XH558’s supporters will love for its powerful and full bodied character.”
The Vulcan to the Sky Trust is a British charity that owns and operates XH558, the last flying Avro Vulcan and the last flying example of Britain’s famous V-force. The trust is dependent on financial support from the aircraft’s supporters as well as its own commercial activities. They hope that the XH558 Bomber Beer will be the first of a small range of exciting ales where a portion of the proceeds will go towards funding the project.
The aircraft is based at Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster, where visitors can take part in fascinating guided tourds, wandering under the giant delta wings with a knowledgeable guide.

Well sacrificed Chris, I'm sure your liver will be suitably recompensed
The Friday Vulcan Beer party seems to be a great idea to get into the Saturday's mood. Count me in, Chris.

Count me in, I remember a Vulcan survival scramble, what a sight, it made your chest rumble, but that's a story for the pub
Update from Doncaster....
I have spoken to The wonderful Tracey at the Doncaster Air Museum re-timings etc. Although the Museum doesn't open to the public until 10:00 hrs we can get in certainly from 09:00 hrs probably earlier if we need to. There is always overnight security so if anyone is travelling up on the Friday and wants to leave their precious collections at the venue on the Friday as well as the Saturday, that can be arranged. I have already booked the Friday off work in order to be around for what ever is needed, either at the Museum, at the airport or ferrying anyone about, leading beer excursions etc..
It is not possible to 100% guarantee that the Vulcan will be at Finningley on the Friday, but the air show season should have finished a few weeks before and once the Waddington Air Show has finished the plane will be coming home, so looks promising for a visit on the Friday (its about Ł12 for the tour/inspection, but I may be able to negotiate on that what with us having international guests etc.)
Sounds great Chris, I will be traveling up on Friday, hopefully early to avoid the traffic. Can't wait.
I'll report for the tour of duty at Doncaster on Friday . Vulcan or not, some beers will be essential that day Just waiting for flight booking opening.
Andy.
