Don't mind me - that's a sweet paint job Thomas !
Nice one Thomas
Good work!
It looks very good, especially the panel lines!
One for me to emulate for the Desert war.
Superb work Thomas.
Rob.
Thomas top class paint job.
1/144 scale pics here.
Before there ever was a WoW or WoG WWII version, I began collecting the planes I would use to play WoW (back then...) WWII style. Cafe Reo used to have the He-111 as part of one of their "Big Bird" series. Pre-painted and partially assembled. But before I knew how awesome the pre-paints were, I was collecting old school, build and paint them yourself kits. On HLJ, I ran across some He-111s for sale, and so I bought three. I collect the bombers in threes, and the fighters in pairs, or "team-mates". Team-mates was a term my son, at the time a teen ager, used. So I stuck with it. My son is now with the 26th MEU, I believe most likely sitting off the coast of Syria tonight, as I type this (and worry about him).
He's here in the second row, center-left with his cover off, mugging for the cameraman no doubt..."Look Mom, Hi Mom" type stuff.
Anyway, back to the He-111s. So I have these three build and paint them yourself Cafe Reo He-111s, and I am at my local hobby shop one day, and I see, for the first time, the pre-painted Cafe Reo Big Bird collection boxes. I pick up a box, and look it over, and it shows two He-111, two Japanese Nells, and two P-61s on the back. Like a doornob, I think to myself, "Good Lord, there's 6 planes in this box!" Hey, I was still new to 1/144 scale, having been a lifelong 1/72 scaler! So I buy all five boxes, and to my dismay, there was only ONE plane per box, so it wasn't the mother-load steal of the century I thought I was getting! LOL!
So I wind up that day with a P-61, two Nells and two He-111s. On the He-111s, I scored one BoB version, and the special, which was a desert version.
So I now discover that the build-em' yourself kits I got, for the about the same price too (I was mad about that! Same price, but I had to paint and build myself), were the exact same mold. So if I could "match" two of the build em' yourself deals to the BoB pre paint, I'd have my set of three. So here are my (first two pics) two, built and painted myself, Cafe Reo He-111s.
Heres the pre paint I was trying to match them to.
Here they all are together, my BoB "wing"!

Rob I can tell you are a Marine calling it a cover. I called it a steel pot. Great looking planes and best wishes to your son.
As said before, that is an excellent repaint Rob. Can't wait to see them fly togehter at Doncaster. Looking forward on meeting you and seeing your lovely repaints up close.
Right Thomas.
I'll bring the super Desert mat which Andrzej sent me as a present from Poland.
Rob.
Nice Mediterranean camouflage, Rob.
My two Heikels He-111 finally finished.
The Mediterranean front is starting and I need contenders.
These two will join my Ju-88's for Med and BOB.
They are excellent models from AIM.
They waited a long time to be painted but here they are.
Very well done aircraft Joaquim.
Looks as if we are in for a tough time over Malta.
Rob.

Thanks, Rob.
Later during the war, not just now.
Must get my hands on a couple of Sparvieros.
I tried to scrape off one of the bar on Heinkel. It was OK on the wing, but I had a problem on the tail and I need to retouch some scratches. Does anyone know which exact colours (Humbrol or Revell) are on the original BoB Heinkel?
The hardest "Bomber" contest ever is over, so here is a pair of my AIM Heinkels one of which was chosen as the humble entry.
There is a painful strory behind it, however. Primarly I planned to repaint the winter official Heinkel ARES mini, but after the first layers of paint I was not satisfied.
One of the bad features was the inner dorsal white color, that I could not manage to overpaint. The decision was then made to remove all the paint with a special chemical agent and this way the tragedy was completed. The model crumbled, minor parts broke off and I lost my heart completely. Still have the remnants somewhere, but they may only be used to pretend a crash landed plane at the most.
So I ordered the AIM models plus decals (1H+DD & 1H+ED) and painted the minis with pleasure.
Now they are ready for desert service!

Very subtle camo coverage Andy.
What a pity about your Ares mini.

Nice 111s. Sad way to get a wreck marker!
Awesome, Andy!
REP!
Nice 111s Darell. Make me want to move from the Pacific to the ETO too!
Would a coat of matt varnish on top cure the problem?
Oh yeah, love the Spanish Civil War schemes. I have several SCW aircraft to finish off, an early model He-111 is something I have yet to purchase.
I received a Heinkel 111 (thanks Evan) the other week and decided I wasn't so fussed about the winter scheme, so I decided on a repaint to a summer scheme for the soon to come Battle of Britain set. I essentially just carefully painted out the white blobs. I didn't feel like flicking the dorsal canopy off to paint out the white underneath so I elected to paint it in a sky blue colour.
Cheers Trevor
I was just looking at mine today and thinking the winter wasn't going to work. But I'm not much of a painter. Yours looks great.
Nice work Trevor. Never thought of a repaint job Will have to get mine out of the hanger and do the same.
Thanks Doug, the repaint wasn't all that hard, I just used some well mixed Tamiya acrylic paint and was very carefull around the decals. I do need to source some swatikas in various sizes though as that black on white X just looks weird. I also used a very old 1960's book that had some 3 view colour plates in it, if the patterns wrong I wouldn't be surprised.

See you on the Dark Side......
Nice pair of beasties, Neil!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
They certainly make a fine pair of aircraft. Very well converted Neil.
I also endorse the use of Testors. It will also take off that bloom that you sometimes get with varnish if used in humid conditions.

Good Job Fella's, very nice work on all of them....
My HE111 ready for decals. An AIM plane.

My HE111,in front, before adding second color and my daughter's attempt, in back, at painting a plane. She has hijacked that HE111, so I have ordered me another.

Very nice minis, Dale. I like AIM stuff very much for ther light weight and quality. My desert AIM He 111s are in post #20.
Daughters always want to paint things like ther fathers do! I know the issue.

Andrzej,
I'm getting her 5 planes from AIM for Christmas to paint and play with. I've taken her to a couple of RC plane shows locally and she really enjoys them and wants one someday.
Has anyone got suggestions (or maybe even a guide?) on repainting the white Ares He111 into a green BoB scheme?
I'm specifically asking about popping off the cockpit and dorsal gun canopies to paint the white surfaces underneath.
If you've any "pro tips" to share with how to go "there and back again," they'd be most appreciated!
