Thread: Official Heinkel He111 Painting Thread

Been there just last fall, thought I did a thread . . . Not so big a deal, nose cap pops off, half ring over cockpit comes easy too. Dorsal and ventral popped off with knife easily too. Don't loose the tiny bits!

The thread was lost in the late October/early November crash! Will have to look at the home computer for the photos .. . .

If you've any "pro tips" to share with how to go "there and back again," they'd be most appreciated!

Do not ask me, Steve. I tried to repaint the "white" He and it ended as a wreck, when wings, rudders, guns and canopies fell apart after unsuccesful removing of the paint.
Canopy and dorsal white zones are ways through hell.
If I were you, I'd buy AIM Heinkels and paint them in whatever scheme you want.

Thanks both of you for the replies.

@Nightbomber, I read your tale of woe on the preceding page. Many condolences for that bad experience, always feels rotten when something goes completely pear-shaped.

@Clipper, when prying off the canopies, did you start from the top? Bottom? Side? I'm assuming you used an X-Acto or similar hobby knife? Are they just tacked on with glue?

    Thanks again!

Used a #11 blade, inserted on bottom to pop the nose cone, then the rest just came off. They are attached with just a touch of glue. I avoided the stripping bath to not have Nightbombers nightmare. The wings are not attached very well either and can pop off whilst handling. Metal/plastic joints suffer from different expansion rates They are a bit of a challenge, but worth it.

I looked at transferring the comments Dave, but they go so far back on the thread that unraveling them would take an age.
