Thread: V-1 Buzz Bomb Build!

  1. #1

    Default V-1 Buzz Bomb Build!

    These guys are Fast!

They arrived quickly and quietly to the work bench Saturday, scared the elves a bit . . .

Very clean and quickly sealed with clear acrylic spray - 3 coats to gloss them, then to the painting room; after the blue bottoms were dry they were drilled for a small screw

These tiny flat head screws came from the mountings of the Sky Pilot P-38's, turned out to be very handy.

The idea is to drill through the V-1 fuselage and insert the screws from below with the tip of the screw just peaking through the top of the model-this way a magnetic base will mount them as well as a magnet mounted on say a parent bomber . . .

    Top side, just peaking!

    Bottom attach test . . .

    Top attach test . . .

On to the rest of the painting

    Couldn't resist a flame painted toothpick or two . . .

    Or three . . .

Here is one on a spare base, heading for a target!

Now for the bases. Had a pair of V-1 kits from Flames of War that came with launch rails. I was going to make my own, but their rails were very cool and tempting . . . assembled, painted, and mounted to clear plastic so the terrain on the mat will show through . . .

    Now we are ready!

    Quite a quick project!

Nasty buggers V1s were, one nearly ended my fathers RAF career. He had the piece of engine they took out of his head as a souvenir

Very nicely done David - can almost hear them - and the toothpick is a must

Great work as usual Dave. Also introduces at least two new scenarios to our repertoire.

I was wondering what to use for the flames coming from the back of the Doodlebug. Toothpick! Perfect!
I ordered my Doodlebugs from AE Models on Shapeways.

If you mean me, I did these years ago. Glad a few are still exploring the edges of the game.
