Great link !!!!
I will watch it in the weekend
Very cool, thanks Martin.
Just watched this.
I had seen parts of it before, but never seen it all the way through.
A very good intro for the new pilots here, and some interesting details, like the loading of the machinegun drums, the views of hangers, and the folding wings on the Short and HP Bombers.
Rob.
Nice find Martin!!! Thanks!!!
Thank you for posting this link.
I just watched the first 5 minutes or so, but will watch the rest tomorrow. Looks really interesting! Thanks for sharing.
A good link Martin - I was fortunate enough to see it when it was shown on Discovery Channel a few months ago, but it is well worth a second look
Very interesting. For those about to play other air wargames, you can watch a commentary by Philip Sabine there, a brilliant gamer, who wrote a well known complete solitaire variant for GMT boardgame "Nightfighter".
He works as a Professor of Strategic Studies in the War Studies Department of Kings College London
I hadn't realised that Philip Sabin was also specialist in air power. I know him from ancient studies and the board game Lost Battles.
For those interested, here is the mess song spoken about at the end of the program...
THE NEXT TO DIE
We meet neath the sounding rafters
And the walls around are bare
As they echo to our laughter
Twould not seem that the dead were there
So stand to your glasses steady
Tis all we have left to prize
Quaff a cup to the dead already
And one to the next who dies
Who dreads to the dead returning
Who shrinks from that sable shore
Where the high and the haughty yearning
Of the souls will be no more
So stand
Theres a mist on the glass congealing
Tis the hurricanes firey breath
And tis thus that the warmth of feeling
Turns to ice in the grasp of death
So stand
There is not time for repentance
Tis folly to yield to despair
When a shudder may finish a sentence
Or death put an end to a prayer
So stand
Time was when we frowned upon others
We thought we were wiser then
But now let us all be brothers
For we never may meet again
So stand
But a truce to this dismal story
For death is a distant friend
So heres to a life of glory
And a laurel to crown each end
So stand

The original poem was called "Revelry of the Dying" Composed by Capt. Bartholomew Dowling in India about 1845, as the plague was hourly sweeping away his companions. He did not long survive his wonderful production. This is even more meaningful to me as my surname is Dowling as well!
Great input David. Thanks for sharing the lyrics; I love the song, although I can not make out some parts of it due to my poor English command.
Well done Martin, that is a Great link.to be up there, with the originals is quite a thing.
A great poem Davin,Maybe you are related,if you could find that link,it would be even more poignant.I think a lot of people have heard the first & second verse, withouth realising,it was written in the day's of the Raj,during a plague epidemic. Me included. Thanks for that.
Superb poem David.
I'm sure that Kyte will approve the sentiment expressed in that. Especially in the chorus line.
Rob.
Thanks for that Martin, I really enjoyed watching it. Cheers mate
Loved the vid especialy the Shorts (aircraft) folding wings. Just been reading about it when I was looking for WW1 torpedo aircraft for Rob. The poem was good, gives it more depth.
