Thread: Official Bristol Blenheim Mk.I/IV painting thread

Here comes a flight of three Bristol Blenheim bombers flying in defense of Malaya on December 7th, 1941. PT-A and E were in the 27th Squadron, while F was in the 67th. It was unusual that they shared the PT designation between two units.

Note that PT-A has the light blue tail stripe. This denotes the plane as a MKIf. It mounted an additional 4 Vickers 303 machine guns in a belly gun pod. I scratch built this using sheets of styrene, and made the guns out of fine brass rod. As you can see, it also sports the half blue, half black underside with no national insignia. I also tried “negative” panel lines using a light grey on black. It looks cool, but isn’t very realistic, in my opinion.

The other two are standard bomber variants with all black and small national insignia on the underside.

As usual, all were airbrushed with Mr Color paints, and masked with Tamiya tape, and vinyl putty. Panel lines are Flory Models.

In regards to the maneuver deck, the card indicates "J(b)". Does that mean to use the "J" maneuver deck but remove the Immelmann card from it? Is that what the lowercase b in parenthesis means?

I have one Bristol Blenheim Mk.VI from Zvezda completed and I painted it in what I believe was the "Malta" camo scheme. I have three more Blenheim's coming hopefully soon. I mainly got these for a Malta campaign that I want to do. I will post pics once I have them all painted.
Also, has anyone had Keith make any custom flight bases for the Mk.VI's by any chance? If so, do you have the file saved that I could possibly use to have him make four custom bases for me?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

Any Cards done for the Mk IVF night fighter with the four .303 mg's in the gun pod on the under side of the fuselage?
I'm doing two all black versions of that airplane from Zvezda kits.

Well, apparently I have maxxed out my allotment of pic file size so I cannot add any more pics. So, no pics for you.

I think I need to re-do the canopy, as it seesm to have misted up from the matt varnish. How do others paint glass?

    Lovely!

Very helpful warning about the canopy "misting" - when I do mine, I'll now complete, varnish, THEN attach the glasswork.

Masking of the canopy might have been done before spraying matt clear, as it shouldn't be dull. There is a liquid "magic masker" latex fluid that you can apply with a brush, that lets you remove it fairly easily once all the spray painting is done. If you apply it to just the glass, you can color the frame with paint, too.

I'm not sure if it's too late, but clear gloss might be applied to the glass areas, to see if the fogging is reduced or eliminated? Try a spot first, to see if it helps, before doing the whole canopy.

Looks good Gary. You could try masking the canopy with tape or a dollop of Blue Tac before varnishing, but I tend to paint 'glass' areas anyway, so that they match my resin models.

From years ago, getting Airfix glass misted up, very careful application of toothpaste used to polish out the misting. Not sure if it will be possible with something so small. Apply sparingly with damp cotton bud

Blimey John, forgot about that. Donkeys years since I used that method.
