Default Crafting the Vokes Filter for Spitfire Mk.VC

For my last WGS project before Cancon next week I am painting up four RAAF Spitfire Mk.VC's for the Darwin 1943 theatre. I purchased Air 200 miniatures but they were standard Mk.V's without the Vokes filters.

I don't know if anyone else has tried this yet, but I am having a go at crafting the filters with epoxy putty. I have applied the putty in the general shape and will trim to the required details in the morning.

I've not used this type of material before and would welcome any pointers!

If you are going to sand it down, wear a dust mask.

8 hours later and the epoxy has well and truly set. After judicious application of the hobby knife and sandpaper the filter doesn't look too bad.

Time for primer, then paint later today.

The mercury soared in Brisbane today so my painting was put off for a bit. Tonight I gave the Spits a dark earth base and the filters are looking OK.

This modification did not prove difficult, I think I'll have to do a few more in Western Desert and Malta colours.

They look great Carl, but do they improve the performance?
Do let us know after your first sortie with them.

The Spits will be debuting at Cancon next weekend, I'll be sure to post pictures and AAR's.

    Thumbs up

    Looking Great Carl.
That should give those Zeros something to think about.
