Default Beginner's guide for newbies building and mounting non-Ares planes. . . ?

    Greetings fellow pilots!

I have tried to search through the forum looking for some basic info on how to mount and use Skytrex (Red Eagle), Reviresco, Sram, etc in the Wings of Glory system. Some things like glue and primer are covered, but where do I find decks and how do I know which decks to obtain for which aircraft? How do I mount the plane and what all do I need to do that--a base, four altitude pegs and a drill bit or pin vise or ???

Maybe there's already a guide around here--please direct me if so. Sorry for all the questions!

    Thanks in advance!

    EG

Well, a complete list of WWI products as of August 2012 can be found here: http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/dow...do=file&id=723

You can see which boxed Wings of War set or booster contains what airplane cards and manouever deck(s).

You can find stats for official and unofficial aicraft here: http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/dow...o=file&id=1137

You can get bases and pegs (and much more) here on this very site: http://www.aerodromeaccessories.com/

To mount an airplane properly you need a base, 4 pegs and either a model designed to be mounted or you need some other way, such as the Gimbal Mounts (see Aerodrome Accessories above).

I find building metal aircraft models tedious. I rather repaint Nexus or F-toy models (if in stock) with the new releases there should not be a problem. Shapeways is hit or miss with quality but there is plenty to choose from. sorry I can be more help I have 9 Reviresco models that I've been working on for a year now.

There's a few ways to get your plane on a flight stand. A peg from the underside of the plane that fits the official flight pegs, or neodymium magnets, one on the flight peg and one in the plane. I prefer the second option as it keeps the models looking right. For fighters I use 3.2 mm diameter and big bombers and balloons have 6mm.

If your short of decks why not start with something that uses a deck you already have. The unofficial aircraft stats are the place to look.

I hope the builds go well.

EG, here is a breakdown of the products that I offer through Aerodrome Accessories (as linked to by Jan above)

That is one of my flight stands. It uses the official pegs (which you can order bags of off my site) and comes with the altitude dials to make tracking altitude in your game super easy. The stands can be easily taken apart for storage if need be.

These two shots show the Gimbal mounts used to attache the plane to the flight pegs. You can also see how they add a lot of visual appeal to the game... now your planes can climb, dive and bank!

If you have any questions, please just let me know.

I have getting on for a hundred or so Skytrex, Riviresco and Shapeways models to go with my hundred or so official minis. My approach to basing has been, in general, to use the bases of the official models, and I have a set of ten of the Colonel's lovely height-indicating flight stands that I have available for general use if I'm taking models to a game or show but not taking any official minis with me. For those models that come with a peg included (e.g. Kampflieger's Shapeways models) there's no problems. For those that don't I use a small magnet glued to the underside of the model, and then I have a set of spare flight pegs with corresponding magnets attached to use with them (the Ares packs of 100 flight pegs come sin handy here ) in a few cases where extra sturdiness is required - generally larger metal models such as my Riviresco W.29s - I've drilled and pegged them.

For manoeuvre decks I was lucky enough to pick up a box of 40 or so decks on ebay plus several of the expansion packs so I have plenty of spare decks of most varieties; there are a few gaps there but I have official decks for those with models or boxed sets (e.g. the "X" decks) and I have a programme to do some home-made sets by scanning and printing at home, then laminating and cutting out.

If you want info on building your kits, go here Wm.
    http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/con...9-kit-building
I used to turn my little pegs to go into the aircraft base using a 1.5 degree taper and acrylic rod for the peg.
Now that spare pegs are available in abundance I just butcher one of those and use it. No taper turning needed and much faster.

    Hey Officier Kyte,

Your "go here" does not link. I too am wanting to learn to mount my Skytrex models for use with WGF. This thread is being helpful.

    Thanks
