    Default Watch Your Back mini-biographies

Hello, I have completed the Watch Your Back set, minus Hans von Hünerbein and Antonio Bogliolo. I can't find enough info on these two guys. As usual, please highlight errors and I will correct them. By the way, I have uploaded the latest versions of the Immelmann set, the Famous Aces set (including the promo card of Captain James Fitz-Morris) and the Burning Drachens set (including the promo cards of Eugen Bönsch and Ernesto Cabruna). They are in the file section under Fan Artwork, pending approval. Enjoy!

The picture that appears below is that of the Curtiss H12 flown by Robert Leckie with which he and his crew downed Zeppelin L22.
There was not enough space to fit it on the biography so I left it out.

    Christophe,
Great work as always! I've checked 'Above the War Fronts' (Grub Street 1997), but there is nothing there on Bogliolo.

For Hptm a D Hans von Hünerbein, 'The Jasta Pilots' (Grub Street 1996) has minimal info:
    Born 7 Feb 1879, Volkerhausen. Killed on a test flight of SSW D.I 3761/16, Boistrancourt, 4 May 1917. Jasta 8 to 7 Apr 17, Jasta 5 as CO, 7 Apr - 4 May 17.
    Victories; 1 - 7 Apr 17 - Nieuport 17

There is a thread on The Aerodrome which offers clues on where you might look further:
'Aviation Awards of Imperial Germany in World War I and the Men who earned them.
Vol V - The Aviation Awards of the Eight Thuringian States and the Duchy of Anhalt.'
Foundation for Aviation WWI, Princeton, NJ 1998
    ISBN - 0-9619867-0-4(v.5)

There's apparently 'a brief bio, a nice shot of Huenerbein and two photos of the SSW before and after the crash.'

    Seasons greetings,
    BofB

I do have Hunerbein's photograph and a nice profile of a Siemens-Schuckert D.I though not the one he crashed in. But I have vitually zero on his biography. For Bogliolo, I have only the profile of his Hanriot HD1 and nothing else.

I just checked through 'Jagdstaffel 5' (Albatros 2004) and while it has a couple of clear photos of von Hünerbein, there is little additional information from the Grub Street info above, except to speculate that as the CO he did little operational flying with Jasta 5, which may have also contributed to his death testing the SSW D.I.

Great job, Christophe; always good to know more about the planes we're flying, and the pilots who flew them.

Thanks once again Christophe for assembling yet another piece of research of inestimable use to members of the Drome.
It will save a lot of time when they are putting together scenarios or constructing aircraft which require info on the pilots.

You mean Hünerbein got promoted to CO the day he shot down that Nieuport?

No, he was killed on May 4, 1917, but was CO from April 7th until May 4th.
