I like those Ki48's Doug they look amazing
Nice bunch of Lilies!
The canopy technique is very effective. I assume they're 1/200 scale?
Those birds are just splendid Alastair.
What a paint job.
Rob.
Very nice! A job well done by both of you!
They look great! Superb job to the both of you! (Nice to see someone using the progeny production line.)
Your son and you did a great job, Alastair!!These planes are amazing, isn't it?
Nick
Great looking aircraft Alastair!
Wonderful planes, you and your son make a great team.
Those planes look awesome! Very Nice!
Love the paintwork Alastair, you and Neville do good work.
I have three Lilys to do this week, and will be finishing them as aircraft from the 75th Attack Air Combat Regiment based in New Guinea 1943.
OMG that is outstanding work. You should give your son a promotion with higher wages.
Thank you all for your kind comments but I feel the credit belongs to Neville for his cam jobs.
Hi Lloyd,
I have already started a thread in the 'Metal and Resin' section, but as promised here are a few images of my three 1/200 scale AIM brand Kawasaki Ki-48-IIb 'Lily' light bombers, destined to harass targets on the WGS game tables of Australia:
Base coat is olive grey, dark green camouflage, yellow ID panels, lightblue/darkblue canopies. Decals are by AIM.
Hope you like them.
Cheers,
Carl.
Those are good Carl well done (at least you painted yours)
That is outstanding woprk Carl. I have 3 AIM Kates I have worked on but can't compare with your work.
Great Lilys. Someday mine will make it to the painting table but not soon enough.
Any units for the above paint schemes?
I did up a card for the type a while ago: OldGuy59's WWII Japanese Bombers Album - Ki-48 Plane Card
Didn't get the management card done, is it needed, too?

Great looking aircraft - nice job on the camouflage
Thanks Peter.
Mine have made it to the gaming table, but just once in 5 years more's the pity.

I’d really like to see a management card for this plane if you have the time.
Plane and Management cards for these planes are done, and in my WWII Japanese Bomber album.

My versions of the Lily.
First a Ki-48 IIb, 8th Centai. Base coated with Mr. Color Grey Green, C-128. Camo stripes are Vallejo Camo Olive Green, 70.894. I chose not to do the panel lines on the upper surfaces as it would break up the painstakingly painted Grass Camo Pattern. The underside is panel lined with the miracle product Flory Models Wash, Grey. The grey does take a little more work than the darker colors as it gets pretty light after drying. I had to touch it up in a few spots. You’ll get a good view of the grey on the third plane below. Stock Misc Mini decals.
Next be Ki-48 Ib, 90th light bomber regiment, Thailand, January 1942. Same colors as above, just different pattern and markings. I used mixed Misc Mini decals.
Last is a Ki-48 Ib from 75th Attack Air Regiment, China, 1941. This plane was base coated with Tamiya XF-12, JN Grey. I was pleased with the grey complimentary panel lines. They did the job of adding depth and character to the plane without overwhelming it. The Hinomaru are Misc Mini amd the tail markings are hand painted.
When I saw this picture, I had to have one of each.
A really fun batch to paint. Of course, they are all 1/200 AIM. I used the new 16mm props from the Aerodrome. I’m really happy with this new size. They fit very well on medium bombers.

Wow! Awesome job on all of them, Dave.
Beautiful airplanes DAK21!
Gorgeous work, Dave! Impossible to pick a favorite.
Great job on this trio Dave. Hopefully one will survive the first mission!
Awesome work Dave. Mine don't look anything like yours or Peters. REP guns jammed.
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the kind words.
Peter, I got a good laugh out of your comment. You’re right, I hope at least one of them makes it to the target site!

I have to say I like the 2nd one the best. The paint job on that one is fantastic and that unitwas in Thailand. I have to see if I can find out where in Thailand it was.
Superb paint jobs!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
The grey and the squiggle-flage really are excellent. Well done!
awesome job dave! i especially love the one with the squiggly green camo!
Thanks guys. I appreciate the positive feedback!
Those are amazing. Excellent work as always!
Very nicely done, Dave. You are using harder shadows than I do, but that is just a preference thing. One thing you might consider is a bit of soft shadow on the back curves of the wings and horizontal stabs. As lifting surfaces are curved, there is a drop-off towards the back of the wings that tend to be darker. It is something I do for almost all the planes I do.

If you have done that, perhaps the upload process has reduced the definition on your images.

Hmmm... May have to redo the left engine nacelle...
PS: Your line drawings are much better than mine.

Hey Mike. Ah, yes, that shadow coming up the back of the wing adds another level of realism! I’ll try that on the batch of G4M1’s I’m wrapping up the paint job on now.
The main reason I make the shadows so hard is how the image comes out in print on the card stock I use. I generally print a test image, then adjust the opacity of the shadow and glare layers so they show properly. Next, I flip the paper and print again on the back to make sure the shadows and glare look good, sometimes taking a couple-three tries. When I finally like it on paper, I go with card stock and then laminate them. By the time I get there, I’ve usually had to increase the opacity quite a bit. As a result, i tend to start heavy and walk it back just a little when printing. My typical start point is about 55%. Looking at just the digital images, there is no doubt they should be softer.
Thank you for the interesting suggestion, and all the other help leading up to it.
