Default WGS Malaya - 1/200 AIM Brewster Buffalo Mk.I's 488 Sqn RNZAF

    Hello all,

Another two 1/200 AIM miniatures finished up tonight, this time two Brewster Buffalos completed in the livery of 488 Squadron Royal New Zealand Air Force (RZNAF). 488 Squadron was deployed to Singapore in November 1941, taking over their Buffalos from 67 Squadron RAF. Operating out of Kallang aircfield, 488 was involved in the heavy fighting in the skies over Malaya in December 1941 and January 1942. Pilot Officer Noel Sharp scored three victories over Japanese fighters during the Malayan campaign flying a Buffalo. Pilot Officer Sharp survived the fall of Singapore, but was killed in action over Java on 20 February 1942 flying a Hurricane with 605 Squadron RAF.

These two will be involved in the Malayan scenario at Cancon 2013, up against Oscars, Nates and Lilys.

Very nice Buffs. What is the white design on the front of the planes represent? Lloyd

    Nice Buffs Carl!
A credit to the Kiwis. I'll keep them in mind when I get to doing mine.

It is a "Chinese dragon" motif used by 488 Sqn.

Very interesting, did you paint the dragons yourself? Kudos to you if you did! The photos seems to indicate the dragon was multi colored, are yours? Lloyd

I can't take credit Lloyd, the decals came with the miniatures from Dave Schmid's AIM here http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/armamen...lemarkings.htm

The dragons have green scales and yellow under-bellies. I was originally going to make the Buffalos 453 Sqn RAAF but the dragon decals were so striking I decided to use them - and as a nod to our ANZAC brothers from across the Tasman Sea.

Alas, 1/200th and here I am with a bunch of 1/144 planes! I would have used them too; they are very striking. Lloyd
