Certainly rep-worthy... beautiful!
Thanks guys. I'll have to get some more so I can have 3 flights of 3 in each color. These AIM planes are fun to paint. Zeros next!
We can't wait to se them! AIM minis are indeed great and fun to paint. David's service is also excellent. If only he could speed up the STBR marked models!

Just saw this and had heard that Dave had a medical condition. Good to hear what it was and he is ok. As stated he has great models. I miss his being at the HMGS shows. I will have to get a list together to put in an order.
Those are really great models, Peter! It must take you hours to paint all those camouflage blotches.
It would seem that the Kate and US TB are HF base due to wing length.
See you on the Dark Side......
6 AIM Kates just done, using MiscMinis decals for the Hiryu.

Has anyone created cards with the updated stats, and sized to match a Heavy Fighter base for A B5N2 Kate? I finally own a couple B5N2's, so it would be nice to have an appropriately sized card with the updated stats on them. One of the planes I've acquired matches the paint scheme on Barry (gully_raker)'s IJN Hiryu card.
The other one has a silver with black nose and red tail scheme. But I'd be happy with any paint scheme if anyone would like to take a shot at creating one.
The stats I found on the Unofficial WGS Aircraft List has the B5N2 on a Heavy Fighter base, and using the ZJ deck, but damage is still 17. I believe the line drawing is a B5N1 with the larger (bubble) engine cowling.

With a little of research, I found out that the B5N that attacked Pearl Harbor was NOT a B5N1 as posted above. There weren't any decent B5N2 drawings anywhere that were even close to the quality of the above image. I looked. So, Adobe Illustrator to the rescue...
So, if there aren't any problems with the drawing immediately above, I have a basis for a card...

This is way out of my limited knowledge. I believe a Lt. Heita Matsumura was an actual pilot of one of the Hiryu camo schemed B5N2's. I have no clue on Japanese units.
Cmdr Mitsuo Fuchida of the Hiryu for the silver one?
Ha! I cannot believe that I was up until 5:00am this morning reading about IJN units and pilots. Up until then, that was a subject of which I had absolutely no knowledge. I'm not certain of how much of that research I retained from those blurry eyed hours of reading. But I do know that I totally missed the fact that you had created, and posted a really nice B5N2 card (post #81) with the updated stats on a heavy fighter base card as I had originally requested. Thank you Mike!
Paul,
I have found markings for the plane on the left, but for a B5N1 (CI-301), Carrier Zuhio, 3rd Koku Sentai. The plane on the right, I can find nothing even close to the paint scheme on-line.
PS:
Done as a B5N2, as I couldn't find anything saying when Carrier Zuhio updated her planes. The carrier was the retreat cover from Pearl Harbor, and from Midway, and could have updated the plane sometime before either battle.

Mike. Those are absolutely beautiful cards. Now I know the color scheme on at least two of my Kates when I paint them!
Where did you get that beautiful water background and the one line? I haven’t had any luck finding a good drawing of the later variant. I’ve got a real nice drawing of the B5N1 on Wikipedia, but zippo for the N2.
Excellent! The Zuhio card is perfect, and I will use anything even closely resembling the second plane. It is so nice to have cards containing updated stats, and are scaled to the appropriate base size. The important thing for me is to have an updated card on the table during the game because I could possibly be using a heavy fighter base from one of the other WGS planes.
As I said in Post #78, I used Adobe Illustrator to make one. I started with the Wikipedia drawing (svg), imported it, isolated the engine cowling, and using a crappy drawing, redrew the lines to represent the B5N2 version. It is probably not correct, but looks OK.
PS: My desperation for a good drawing had me do this:
First isolate out the Cowling of the B5N1:
Find the best crappy image of a B5N2, and match up the lines, and resize them to match the Wikipedia drawing:
Oh! And some versions of the plane, especially Pearl Harbor images, didn't have a prop spinner, so I copied the B5N1 prop to the B5N2 drawing:
PPS: This only worked because the body of the two versions of the plane are close to the same, as far as I could tell in the crappy images. Scale might be off, as when I am trying to match paint schemes, I size a model paint guide drawing or an online image to my drawings. That sometimes shows longer wings, shorter engine cowlings, shorter fuselages... I don't know if that is image issues, scale issue with a model or differences in version dimensions. Gack!

Thanks again Mike. A seriously nice variety of excellent looking cards.
Great idea Mike. I’ll give that a go if I don’t just paint my Kates to match your beautiful cards above!
I haven't attributed the water texture, and had to go look. But I found it here:
www.deviantart.com - GreenEyezz-Stock: Water-Texture-7
I Photoshopped it with a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to make it blue-ish for my cards.

Those are really nice!! Great job!! The torpedoes give it a menacing look.
What is the ZJ deck and how to get it? I don't think I've seen it with officially released planes.
Any deck with a Z in front is from the Zoe Brain method of flying the front edge of the base to the arrow, not the rear. It's for very slow planes. Sometimes I think of myself as ZPeter.
These are not special decks or released by ARES.
This is one of the posted special slow maneuver decks:
