Here are the rest of my Kates. Just had to do another like my 1st. Was tempted to do all four that way but wanted to make it easier at the upcoming shows for players to identify their own planes.

Dave's recovering from surgery for a double hernia right now, but as soon as he's up and running again, I think several of us will have sizable orders for his models ready to go .

Just saw this and had heard that Dave had a medical condition. Good to hear what it was and he is ok. As stated he has great models. I miss his being at the HMGS shows. I will have to get a list together to put in an order.

Yes, when he is ready to get back in production he will be busy. I have an order I want to put in with him. Guess I'll hold off for a while.

The two with the squiggly lines were quite slow to paint up but well worth the time. Blotches are a lot quicker. The trouble with them is knowing when to stop.

Has anyone created cards with the updated stats, and sized to match a Heavy Fighter base for A B5N2 Kate? I finally own a couple B5N2's, so it would be nice to have an appropriately sized card with the updated stats on them. One of the planes I've acquired matches the paint scheme on Barry (gully_raker)'s IJN Hiryu card.

The stats I found on the Unofficial WGS Aircraft List has the B5N2 on a Heavy Fighter base, and using the ZJ deck, but damage is still 17. I believe the line drawing is a B5N1 with the larger (bubble) engine cowling.

With a little of research, I found out that the B5N that attacked Pearl Harbor was NOT a B5N1 as posted above. There weren't any decent B5N2 drawings anywhere that were even close to the quality of the above image. I looked. So, Adobe Illustrator to the rescue...

If I'm not mistaken, this is a B5N1, not used at Pearl Harbor? Just checking, as they were supposed to have used B5N2s there...

This is way out of my limited knowledge. I believe a Lt. Heita Matsumura was an actual pilot of one of the Hiryu camo schemed B5N2's. I have no clue on Japanese units.

Cmdr Mitsuo Fuchida of the Hiryu for the silver one?

Ha! I cannot believe that I was up until 5:00am this morning reading about IJN units and pilots. Up until then, that was a subject of which I had absolutely no knowledge. I'm not certain of how much of that research I retained from those blurry eyed hours of reading. But I do know that I totally missed the fact that you had created, and posted a really nice B5N2 card (post #81) with the updated stats on a heavy fighter base card as I had originally requested. Thank you Mike!

    Paul,
I have found markings for the plane on the left, but for a B5N1 (CI-301), Carrier Zuhio, 3rd Koku Sentai. The plane on the right, I can find nothing even close to the paint scheme on-line.

Done as a B5N2, as I couldn't find anything saying when Carrier Zuhio updated her planes. The carrier was the retreat cover from Pearl Harbor, and from Midway, and could have updated the plane sometime before either battle.

Mike. Those are absolutely beautiful cards. Now I know the color scheme on at least two of my Kates when I paint them!

Where did you get that beautiful water background and the one line? I haven’t had any luck finding a good drawing of the later variant. I’ve got a real nice drawing of the B5N1 on Wikipedia, but zippo for the N2.

Excellent! The Zuhio card is perfect, and I will use anything even closely resembling the second plane. It is so nice to have cards containing updated stats, and are scaled to the appropriate base size. The important thing for me is to have an updated card on the table during the game because I could possibly be using a heavy fighter base from one of the other WGS planes.

As I said in Post #78, I used Adobe Illustrator to make one. I started with the Wikipedia drawing (svg), imported it, isolated the engine cowling, and using a crappy drawing, redrew the lines to represent the B5N2 version. It is probably not correct, but looks OK.

PS: My desperation for a good drawing had me do this:

First isolate out the Cowling of the B5N1:

Name:	B5N1_Cowling-1.png
Views:	93
Size:	8.5 KB
ID:	293069

Find the best crappy image of a B5N2, and match up the lines, and resize them to match the Wikipedia drawing:

Name:	B5N2-Late_Cowling-1.png
Views:	94
Size:	7.1 KB
ID:	293071

Oh! And some versions of the plane, especially Pearl Harbor images, didn't have a prop spinner, so I copied the B5N1 prop to the B5N2 drawing:

Name:	B5N2-Early_Cowling-1.png
Views:	95
Size:	7.5 KB
ID:	293070

PPS: This only worked because the body of the two versions of the plane are close to the same, as far as I could tell in the crappy images. Scale might be off, as when I am trying to match paint schemes, I size a model paint guide drawing or an online image to my drawings. That sometimes shows longer wings, shorter engine cowlings, shorter fuselages... I don't know if that is image issues, scale issue with a model or differences in version dimensions. Gack!

I haven't attributed the water texture, and had to go look. But I found it here:

Any deck with a Z in front is from the Zoe Brain method of flying the front edge of the base to the arrow, not the rear. It's for very slow planes. Sometimes I think of myself as ZPeter.

These are not special decks or released by ARES.
