Default What do you use for your paint schemes

I am curious of what others use to find paint schemes for their aircraft? Do you use a book or a web site or do you just make them up in your head. I know most if not all pilots each had different schemes as well as squadron markings. I am really curious.

A mixture really. I have pretty much all of the Osprey Aircraft of the Aces WW1 books and some of the WW1 elite units. I have another book on the flying circus. I also use the net as I always like to try to cross reference information.

I tend to use Ospreys if they give enough information about the top downs, but supliment it with pictures from members here on the drome, Google, the Aerodrome, and any photographs that are about.

Uncle Google knows a lot about paint schemes.

I use a mix of books, Internet and my own fantasy.

I go the cheap route, for good or ill, scouring the internet for photographs (especially using Google image searches for specific squadrons and planes).

Usually internet scouring, or trusting Dom's Decals. But I got obsessed over a partcular Hanriot paint scheme, so ended up shelling out for Italian Aces of World War I from Schiffer press, and now I've got quite a few plans for the Hanriots when they're released...

    Thumbs up

As Tim & others have said Osprey Aces & Elite Unit books.
However Google Images for the various aircraft also good plus a website Wings Palette.
If I am going to use a mythical pilot then I will make up a paint scheme but usually base it on a known unit or Jastas basic colours plus individual Pilots choice.

Example of a Jasta 2 Bolcke aircraft for a mythical Pilot attached.
Its a repaint of a Nexus Kempf Dr.I.

I use Osprey books, the web and the Bob Pearson CD is great. Worth every penny.

Here's a link to the CD.

I haven't done repaints but to me one of the best sources is Osprey as others have indicated.Squadron/Signal is another good source and I just found a series called AirDOC. Bought one on the Ju88 and is very good many pictures. Its a German publication but is in English and German.
