Those are all EXCELLENT MODELS!! Jan, I too can't wait for the finished product.......
Crickey Tim - mine isn't in the same league as James (Far East) I did see his and contemplated doing something along the same lines but I don't have the range of decals to get those straight lines and there's no way I can paint them. I did try masking tape on the wings of mine and the edge was rubbish and I had to paint over it.
Cheers
Very nicely done, John.
Mine are pretty much Ares vanilla, although if I have time I might get around to minor mods.
Great Job!, excellent color scheme.
Wow amazing planes and a couple of great photos as well.
Never Knowingly Undergunned !!
Lovely work, John! It's nice to see a naval Eindecker alongside your blue bird - great use of that blue and cream, by the way...it really is a simple, clean way to make the Eindecker stand out. I hope they fly well for you in the OTT campaign.
All the best,
Matt
Fictional or not, they are very well-done.
Great work John. I look forward to seeing them in action in DYM.
Sorry my initial comment was misleading the blue one is fictional but the other is a naval plane, decals from the Valom kit which is still waiting for me to pluck up the courage to do the undercarriage.
Much appreciate your kind comments.
Cheers.
Again, another great bit of painting and I look forward to seeing these in action too. REP gun jammed after the DH2 thread viewing, but most worthy
Thanks for the tip on the Valom Eindecker kit, John - it's nice to know the LF decals are in the kit as an option...I often look at Valom kits for the decals options they provide and have purchased a couple of them simply to have the decals. I knew that was the naval EIII and the blue one was your 'fictional' one...although I believe James/Far East's personalized version is actually taken from a picture. The copy of that pic that I have seen is at the back of the book KEKs and Fokkerstaffels, a wonderful exploration of early war German aviation on the Western Front.
Keep up the lovely work!
All the best,
Matt

Superb!
Great outcome, after all your travails!

Congratulations Tim and Paul. Great work. Now try the Sopwith Pup Paul and if you succeed with that I reckon you will have cracked it with Valom kits.
I do have a Valom Fokker Dr.I kit that I will have a go at and with Florian's great tips it should be an easier job....that and no attempt on my part at rigging. There's not much rigging on the Dr.I; none that I would have done even if the EIII rigging had worked out..
Very nice. Inspiration to paint my lone duplicate EIII.
Gorgeous work here! There's hope for other alternatives to Ares re-releasing the Eindecker... Keep that inspiration coming...
All the best,
Matt
Very well done, Florian! Nice, crisp edging to the paint, and did you custom mix the shading?
I agree that is a very smart bit of workmanship Florian.

I've basecoated with GW Skull White spray. The beige consists of two thin layers of Vallejo Model Color Deck Tan diluted with water.
The propeller, pilot and tailskit are a 80/20 mix of Reaper Paints Tanned Shadows and Dark Skin. The three grey tones are different mixes of Reaper Paint grey + black/white.
This time I heavily used decal softener - how could I build models in the past without? On Manfreds' plane can the effect be seen at best: look at the fields of the maltese crosses on the side of the fuselage. A small pane overlaps to the top of the fuselage, but follows perfectly the shape.

Very nice, is this the Valom kit, you've made a superb job of the undercarriage if it is.
Excellent E.IIIs!

Yes, it's a Valom kit. Believe me: the undercarriage is just a question of a good support (look at my SE5 tutorial for reference) and a toothpick for the super glue.
Arranging the wings was the the real challenge of this kit! It would be easier, if the wings are made of one part, which can be pushed through the fuselage (with a recess for the cockpit, of course).
Nice E.IIIs! REP

Nice Fokker and good use of Valom decals.
You can really see how the pilot is focusing on his crosshair! How is your experience with the weight of the model? Take the photo while holding breath?
The pilot and plane are all one-piece-metal - I tried to make the pilot "sit back" a little, but he simply wouldn't budge!
So I left him as he was! The only addition I made to the 'Red Eagle' kit was the cowling pylon (an old used staple, clipped and bent into a 'V') and he does appear to be squinting through it!
The model IS very heavy, but is also very stable on the gimbal mount.
Take a close look at the ball bearing - it is dull in appearance, not shiny at all. That's because I "scuffed" it before gluing it on (I rubbed it vigorously on a sheet of new Emery cloth, the grit of the paper carving hundreds of tiny grooves into the ball).
When I angle the plane, I can feel the ball "grinding" against the magnet, and when released the plane maintains it's attitude; full dive, full climb, full bank left or right, there is no slippage at all!
It is just a regular "Aerodrome Accessories" ball-and-magnet gimbal mount, bought from Keith, but when properly prepared it has no problem holding a very heavy single-seater plane in position.

Another beauty Tim.
Nice job, Tim.
Also nice to see you don't have the 'coronaphoto virus' plaguing some of us.
Nice What do you use for those strings?
Superb work as usual Tim.
I see you just cracked the 2000 rep points barrier too!

Another masterpiece Tim.
Fokker EIII of Ernst Udet (KeK Habsheim) and Gotthard Sachsenberg (1 Marine FFA). My first EIII since my first Valom kits. This time the landing struts are all Valom photo-etched parts! The original two Valom EIII are in the final photo.
More planes to build / paint for the OTT campaign but this should do me for at least the first mission.
Sweet. No doubt we'll be seeing them in AARs soon to come.
