Nieuport 11 Repaint
Maybe the Oberst will change this title to Official 16/11 thread, as the 11s are helping to pad it out a bit.

Currently working on my first none CP plane, my little Nieuport 11 is starting to look rather good just got to finish of the wheels, struts & tail. Hopefully my rondal decals will arrive today so I can finish him off and send to the front to face the dreaded Hun.
With a double-up de Guibert Nieuport N.16 from my third Balloon Busters Set I decided to do a quick WGF re-paint. I selected a Royal Flying Corps profile, an 11 Squadron Nieuport N.16 flown by Lt. Albert Ball in June and July 1916.
On 26 June Lt. Ball attacked and destroyed an observation balloon with Le Prieux rockets flying this aircraft. The next day he was gazetted to receive the Military Cross and cited for his continuous determination to be at the enemy. On 2 July 1916 Albert Ball was also flying this Nieuport when he achieved a double victory shooting down a Roland C.II and an Aviatik.
The re-paint was very simple:
1. Flat aluminium for the cowl;
2. One part Humbrol 74 (Linen) to four parts white to paint out the French roundels on the underside of the top wing;
3. Humbrol 78 (cockpit green) for the green camouflage over the existing dark brown.
Decals were Skytrex (upper and underside wings) and Shed (36" white disc and British roundels over the existing fuselage Cockerill devices).
Tamiya TS-80 flat clear spray finished the job.
Nice repaint Carl, and of course one very close to my heart.
Rob.
Thanks Rob,
I saw your Ball N.16 on the first post, very nice.
One day when I feel like doing a fiddly job I'll go back and apply the roundels on the top underwing and the A134 serial on the rudder.
I did the repaint late last night and only had a 45 minute window today for the decals.
Another nice Nieuport to go along with your red Navarre. Quite striking models.
For those not already in the know, an introduction into the arcane art of converting a Nieuport 16 to an 11 - http://www.wingsofwar.org/forums/sho...-a-Nieuport-11
That's a great repaint, very clean finish! Great job!
Awesome! But how does one convert a N-11 to an N-16? Or will such a conversion upset the underpinnings of the universe? Some of us want to know . . .
This is my Nieuport repaint.
More pictures can be found if you click here.
I had to look twice before I could believe that one Thomas.
Magnificent.
Rob.
An excellent re-paint Thomas. I am now toying with rockets following clipper1801's instructions for making but I'm still stuck with making them removable.
A very nice rendering Dave.
You certainly seem to have overcome the rough surface effect very well.
Rob.
Two more nice offerings from Roland and Dave.
If you can send me a side view of the original plane Dave. I will try and knock you out a set of decals for it.
Rob.
Right Roland.
I'll have a crack at that and see what I can produce.
Rob.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing photos of your squadron!
I found a lot of good reference material and markings about Esc124 on this web site:

Thanks for the reference, first i have to finish a Richthofen that i am turning into a KEMPF. Then to highlight a group of zeros and grummans and just then i am going for the squadron ETF 2 months
This site is a MUST for the french wings, and is always updated.
There is many original pictures from private collection, and beautiful profiles.
And for those who can read french, many informations.
Cracking models chaps - keep them coming
Cheers Rob
and
Merci Roland

Nice job Peter. I have always loved the Bebe since I converted one a couple of years ago for a balloon attack.
