Nieuport 11: "Zigomar", Nr "6". Escadrille 62eme Adj Paul Tarascon - 12 victoires.

    This was Ancillotto's WoG Ni-11
I covered the Italian markings using Vallejo's Aged White, and applied home-printed decals for personal markings, and WoG Aerodrome for French National Markings.

Adj Paul Tarascon: While learning to fly in 1911, Tarascon was seriously injured in a crash, losing his right leg. Despite his handicap, he volunteered for the French Air Service in August 1914. He was accepted and received a Pilot's Brevet in December. During World War I, he became known as "l'as la jambe de bois" (the ace with the wooden leg). During World War II, Tarascon was a Colonel in the French Resistance.

All his planes were named "Zigomar!" which means something like "Penis" if I'm not wrong

Really nice - especially for a minor change.

That comment was about the first one, Ezekiel.
    I hadn't seen the second.

I must have another go at making my own decals.

Tim, if you or anyone else want these decals just drop me a line and I'll email you the files

    Very kind offer - thanks.

My biggest problem is that my attempts to print them are always a bit "fuzzy", indistinct; both home Inkjet printer and work's Laser printer.
Ideally, I'd like to buy a high quality printer, but have no idea which one would be best.

Send me an attatchment with something you want to print and I will give it a go and then mail the resyults back to see if they are any good. I will Pm you my E-mail addy.

I just have an EPSON XP-241. Very average home printer. The trick is usually getting your printing settings right, and your decal paper good quality and new.
For printing settings, I usually go for "Paper: Photo Glossy" and the highest possible quality. Make sure headers are clean
For decal paper go for Testors and make sure you don't store it for too long, since decal sheets dry out with time: just buy and print.

From Wikipedia - Zigomar, a 1911 French film based on the stories of Léon Sazie and directed by Victorin-Hippolyte Jasset."

Zigomar is a character in the Sazie novels. From the French wiki bio on Sazie:

"Jean Eugčne Léon Sazie, born October 15, 1862 in Oran, Algeria, and died January 16, 1939 in Suresnes, is a French writer.
He remains best known for having created in 1910 the character of Zigomar, the crime king with the red hood who heads the gang of 'Z'."

Zigomar , nom masculin Sens 1. Anatomie. Argot:

Short tanslation: Zigomar is a slang word that designs male sexual organs in a vulgar way. It is a very dated term, used mainly in 19th century novels.

    Source:
    https://www.linternaute.fr/dictionna...ition/zigomar/

It seems it also means a man that behaves in a very flamboyant way. It seems it is also a type of cavalry saber

And now, a nearly completed Rumsey from the Escadrille Americaine. Using a Chaput as the base, I painted the the lower left wing and tail flaps linen as the plane had been wrecked and replace with parts from another N.11. The wheel covers have been painted, and over the off "brown" of the Ares offering I went with a Vallejo flat brown. I added the stripes on the wings as well. I have some touch up to do, and still trying to figure out how to paint RUM on each side, then a coat of varnish, and this bebe (pun intended) will be making an appearance on the table.
