Nice work Chaps.
I have nearly finished mine. Just doing the decals today, coat matt varnish & should be able to take pics in a day or so.
Inspired by Clippers work output I got motivated & finished my D.II today.
I have also posted in the Shapeways sectionwith details of Paints etc used.

Howdy Yall,
These all look very cool, well done! I am thinking that everyone is using decals for the non-pre-paints, is that correct?
Keep up the great work, it is making me feel like a deadbeat for having my Als just sitting on the shelf awaiting their time on the workbench :-D
Nice one Chris. Must get my last one started.
Rob.
Some really nicely painted Albatross D.II's guys![]()
Wow Wayne that Albatros D.II looks amazing with those hand painted crosses and wood grain effect![]()
And very nice it is too Wayne.

Here's mine from the MVR competition. It's Shapeways WSF.
Ian
Another bevy of very good looking aircraft.
I particularly liked yours for its clean lines when it was in the MVR competition Ian.
Rob.
Smart as paint Jorgen lad.
Well I'm running out of things to say about your beautiful offerings.

When I get a prop I'll get mine done too.
See you on the Dark Side......
I was suprised that I could not find an official thread for the D.II as I was sure others besides myself had done some Shapeways or other makes.
Anyway with the advent of 3 D.II's in the new releases I thought you might like to see how close I got my Shapeways one to the official release.
I actually prefer my slightly more "wood like" fuselarge colour to the Ares one but thats just me!

Great looking D.II Barry!
I like the more natural wood varnish color on your kite than the yellow on Ares' kites.

Very picturesque Mark. I think it is an improvement.

Very nice Mark. The brighter white boxed crosses I agree is a better look.
Great planes you have there guys! Loved the combination of colors of each.
Thanks
Nick
Love the DII craft. Nice job there Mark. Reading the 2 Osprey Albatros Aces titles it seem s that painting/ staining the wood fuselage was done on more than a few craft. Really like your interpretation.
Some more nice work Darrell.......you've been busy,
They are all looking very good chaps.
Keep them coming.
Rob.

Really nice woodgrain there Ezekiel.
Yes! That certainly has the look Ezekiel.

Super wood-grain!
Here is a picture of my first attempt at a WoG repaint. I wanted to change the Szepessy-Sokoll rather mundane DII into one of the 'more' colorful planes flown by the Austro-Hungarians (based on Martin O'Connor's Air Aces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire 1914-1918), and I was taken by Graeser's cool great horned owl emblem, so I thought I'd give it a go. Vallejo acrylics were used throughout, and the plane was sealed after painting with Testor's Dullcote spray. Hand-painting the owl was a bit tedious, but I'm pleased with the result. After seeing some of the discussion on wood-graining, I may go back and try some of those techniques in the future.
This was my first attempt at using my new phone to take pictures, as I move into the 21st Century with new technologyso there was no real thought for backgrounds and shadows, but the pics turned out okay...as I get used to the process, I hope they'll improve.
All the best,
Matt
Nice looking plane Matt.
Great first effort and, as Peter already stated, a nice looking plane Matt.![]()
Thanks, guys - it's a bit of a 'fantasy' plane, as Graeser's plane shown in O'Connor's book is a DIII, but I really enjoyed painting it, and it will look nice flying with the other Austro-Hungarians. I'm sure I'll do some others as I move forward collecting these little gems!
All the best,
Matt
Great job - well done!
Very nice Matt.
You just go on what you feel like painting. Who is to say there was not one of those. We only get the ones that were recorded anyway.
Rob.
"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
Thanks, Rob! I'm of the same sentiment as far as what's recorded versus what might have been. Graeser IS mentioned in O'Connor's book as one of the few having flown the DII - I wanted to keep that accurate, at least -, and since there are a couple of his planes depicted in the color section, I thought I'd have a go with depicting a third one to play with...
All the best,
Matt
