The D deck will give them a run for their money from past experience. Trade a sharp right for a sharp left and you'll be in business.

Dave's revised D deck for the Pup is definitely in the plan!

    Beautiful cards, Mike!

    Point of Order, though...

The card back should say "Royal Flying Corps", not "Royal Air Force"

I thought it might be useful to post this optional maneuver card here, but if out of order can be deleted.
The merits of tweaking the D deck for the Pup is debated in several threads, but this option is to replace one of the 90* right turns with this card.

Yes, Chris made all the Baby Mine and serial # for Black Arrow. I did Black Arrow and the P. Black Arrow is a little large but I wanted it readable.

Nice work! From having done the Black Arrow (Pierce) as a 3D print, I know there is a lot more to getting those markings right than meets the eye.

Thanks, all. I baptized BABY MINE in OTT yesterday. It has a few holes in it. Coming soon to an AAR near you.

For the fuselage images or custom fonts like Baby Mine i scan a profile then resize the image. Sometimes have to adjust the PC10 color a bit or clean up artifacts between letters or in and around the image to make it pop at scale, but full credit to Peter for color-matching them. They are printed on white decal paper as are the plane numbers, of course.

For printing the tiny tail #'s or things like the Sopwith fin logo (on clear decal paper), Adobe Illustrator is amazing. Tons of fonts to try to get a close match, but most importantly, you can size the font incrementally and they still print crystal clear, a size 2.5 point font, for example.

Also edited my post. BABY MINE is a Decapod model and Black Arrow is a Reduce Aircraft Factory (I have some of each, both are very nice). Decapod has a separate prop (under fuselage at post position) and RAF has the prop at 2:00 - 8:00 o'clock.

I've updated the pics in post #112 of BABY MINE and Black Arrow since I added white elevators. There doesn't seem to be definitive info available -- they are shown that way in the Osprey book (although profile descriptions indicate conflicting info), but Rogers' Schiffer book has no mention and seems to conflate flight colors between Pups, Triplanes, and Camels for 3 Naval Sqn. A Pheon decal site shows BABY MINE without white elevators but it's also a red cowling version from when it moved to C flight. An photo of Black Arrow on its back seems to indicate white elevators, although admittedly it's hard to tell and open to interpretation. If anyone has better info, please chime in.

Malachi, are you using air brash or is it brush painted? It is nice and smoooth.

  38. #138

    Default

Petr, thanks, they are brush painted. I prep the shapeways with clear coat spray can (usually 3 coats), then prime from a spray can. The brush painting is usually from a wet palette which helps for longer working time and to keep the paint diluted. Usually water works fine but for some troublesome thicker paints or to aid a blend that keeps separating I sometimes add a drop of Vallejo glaze medium.
