    My pack of Pups.

N6181, Happy, flown by LS Breadner, together they got 5 kills including a Gotha on 23rd April 1917.

N6205, Betty flown by J Fall, they scored three victories against Albatros D.iiis.

N6162, I Wonder, flown by LH Rochford. He shot down a seaplane in this. An A gun Pup will come in very handy.

N6179, Baby Mine, flown by AW Carter, together they shot down three D.iiis.

N6171, Black Arrow, flown by E Pierce. After five kills in Black Arrow, Pierce became an ace on 2nd May 1917.

9496, The Pup. This was the first Pup received by the Navy. It was sent for field testing with 3 bombing Wing RNAS so shouldn't be here really... but I like it too much.

    Here they are together.

    All Shapeways WSF.

It's a D deck. Not too quick but very agile. The single gun is the only drawback but it should easily hold its own in bloody April battles.

Great adaption for snoopy. You had me going when you did the side pic. Very good. But I have a question in general. Having perused most of the pics in the painting threads is the colour brown or green for the RFC aircraft. Whichever it is can someone tell me a suitable Citadel or Vallejo colour match please?

Vallejo Brown Violet works very well for PC 10.

Bestial Brown & Dark Angels Green 50/50. Top up with Dwarf flesh or a suitable beige colour to lighten. Use a nearly empty pot (clean it out well) and mix your own.
Mixing saves you lots of money, and once you have a full pot it should do a lot of planes.
Not only that, you can use the brown for other stuff (pilots, props and struts!)

hayden, what adhesive are you using to glue the brass struts in place?
i've tried a couple of different adhesives, and made a right mess. quite put me off the kit making.
as for colours, I use Humbrol acrylics 30 for the green, 103 for the cdl
enamel 9 for the struts and other woodwork.
I quit models in my late teens for motorcycles, and have only just returned to modelling and gaming so all these other paints and stuff is new to me.(30 plus years since)

I too would like a pointer here as the fixing of the struts has been my undoing. Super glue and accelerator are great but if you need to tweak a strut a little it just breaks away. (paint now sorted-cheers for the tip)

I used superglue on my Valom D.VII and it worked fine. I used a really small amount until I had the struts in the correct position, then reinforced the joins with some more superglue applied with a cocktail stick. Then a few coats of varnish for extra strengthening and I think it'll be tough enough for a games table.

Well tomorrow is pup day, I hope. Will try this method and see how I go.

Likewise, just superglue but go easy. Try and spend the extra few quid in this department, as the nozzle control can either spell success or disaster.
I'm currently using B&Q 4g superglue liquid pen. Not as pricey as loctite, but it sets a couple of seconds slower.

Struts on this bad boy weren't easy (the hardest part infact), and don't bother with the cabine struts supplied. Get some fuse wire instead.
    I set the wings by;

    * Gluing lower wing in place.
    * Check alignment of upper wing, then carefully glue wing struts to lower wing. Align them by sighting the angle from side profile of plane.
    * Once your happy, dab some glue onto the starter holes on the upper wing. Align and set.
(The plastic on the upper wing sagged in the middle about 1 or 2mm on mine)
    * Get some fuse wire and using some nips, cut to the size you need to lift the middle of the upper wing that 1mm. The starter holes help you here. Select a suitable wire size!
    * Using round-nosed pliers (you will need them) check they are correct by slotting them into place before gluing.

That's how I did mine, but more diligent modelers may approach it with more care than I have.

    I'm really happy with mine.
Pros; Great decals! Relatively easy construction and paint goes on well with no real hiccups.
Cons; Fiddly cabine struts and the detail on the wings isn't that good.

For playing WoG, I think most would agree that they do look very nice.

Damn another trip out. What size fuse wire? I might have a bash with the supplied cabine struts and see how I go.

  35. #35

    Default

Neil, use the supplied brass struts they work fine, they are set at the correct length for the top wing.
What made it easier to do was use a 'pin vice' small drill to out the original strut positions the same size. The glue pools inside in the holes and does not set immediately allowing adjustment of struts and wings.

The one I painted with the Dragon is for my Welch girlfriend.

(Ok, later in 2014 she became my wife! Then began the flight of Sopwith Dragons. I only have 1 left to paint for her, a Dolphin. (As of 8/18) )

Thanks Chris. Got to fly with and against the Dragon Pup this weekend. We teamed up against a pair of AP 2 seaters and didn't do well the first encounter. Those Roland CIIs are nasty! 2nd try we prevailed against Rumplers. Then she took down me in an Albatross twice but I downed the Dragon with a DrI. You'll see the Dragon at Havoc.
