Paint scheme was taken from numerous websites and also Rise of Flight for smaller detail such as the green and purple colouring on the wheel plane (which is the only part of the colour scheme that Josef Mai used from the Jasta 5 Squadron colours.)

    Many thanks!

The Zebra stripes were good old masking and a lot of patients.

    James,
What do you find the most accurate way to cut down your masking tape into thin strips?

I use a very special technique passed down from generation to generation. You can read more about the secret art here!

    That's truly beautiful paintwork James!

I would, however, be wary of using Rise of Flight "skins" as evidence for historical paint schemes - after finding several inaccuracies, mistakes and "fanciful" colours, I stopped using any of them.

Tim thanks for the heads up, I already knew about there being a lot of fantastical skins out there.

Actually it was Wingnut Wings that got me on to the Josef Mai Fokker, and I did some more hunting around and only once I had satisfied myself that it was legitimate than I went and looked at how it would look in ROF.

I actually found a painting of his plane before the ROF model, but I couldn't see if he had the Lozenge pattern under the wings as well, nor could I see the wheel plane detail.

Well good luck then. If you ever venture into multiplayer, I wrote an article that might help:

I also really liked your masking article. Very clear and well done!

Nice one James. At the moment I have been painting my stripes as I have not had success (to my picky bastard level) with masking tape. Will have to try it again and pull out my air brush.
Great how to on the tape. Now I just need to find a samurai sword....
