What a great job Zoe - love that decal of the seven Swabians - sort of reminds me of Uncle Tom Cobley and all. Rep inbound

    Hi Dave.
I have opened a new Thread for 3D Printed models and moved the offending posts there for you.

Original model Ares Fokker DVII Goering

Fuselage, upper wings and tail - Foundry Bavarian Cornflower Blue 73b
Front Fuselage, wheels and struts - Vallejo Vermillion 70.909
Engine, tyres and machineguns - Foundry Equipment Black 101a (Engine drybrushed GW Leadbelcher)
Rudder and wing stripe - Vallejo White 70.951

Decals - Valom and Aviation Wings

This machine strated off as an Ares Goering but had been poorly overpainted when I acquired it. I stripped it using Dettol which not only removed the paint but also the glue holding the various parts together!! After a lengthy drying out process I rebuilt it and re-painted it. Not all the parts, especially the engine, and cabane struts went back exactly as the original, but it seems to work. I won't be doing that again in a hurry.

    Very nice work!

    A joy to "Berthold"

    Especially considering the rebuild!

I'll remember 'Dettol' when I want to "explode" a model for repainting.

Wonderful job! I knew Dettol could strip paint. Did not know it would dissolve the glue! EEK!

Very nice Gary. That's a plane I'm surprised ARES hasn't done.

Worth knowing about the Dettol trick Gary. It will save all the fuss of putting aircraft in the freezer over night and then shocking the joints in hot water when I want to do a complete reconstruct.

Interesting note about Dettol, I once used it to soften a pair of walking boots that were giving me gip. Once a day, a liberal allocation was needed but it worked. The smell was horrible and I disposed of the boots as soon as possible.

Original model - Syborg 3d Printing

Fuselage - Vallejo Flat Blue 70.962 and Foundry Bright Green 25a
    Rudder - Vallejo White 70.951
Struts and undercarriage - GW Runefang Steel
Engine and machineguns - Foundry Gunmetal with GW Nuln Oil wash
Tyres - Vallejo Black Grey 70.862

    Decals

    Wings coverings- Aviattik 144007
    Markings - Valom

The Syborg model required a little bit of cleaning up but only took a few minutes. I cut off the upper wing to better position the wing decals but next time I will use a lighter undercoat to bring out the 5 colour decals a little better.

Quick observation....it is a little over a year since a Fokker D-VII has been posted to this thread! This a/c type was particularly important in the last year of the war, yet it seems strangely under-represented in the WoG world.

    Very nice Fokker, Gary!

All the lozenge decals I have used, made by various manufacturers (but I've never used Aviattik) require a pure white gloss undercoat to show the colours "correctly".

Thanks for the advice Tim. I'll do some more experimenting. By the way what wing decals do you use?

Well Fokker D.VIIs are obviously like London buses. You wait forever and then a number come along all at once.

    Original model Syborg 3d Printing

Fuselage - Foundry Bright Green 25a
Nose - Vallejo Flat Yellow 70.953
    Tail - Vallejo White 70.951
Tyres - Vallejo Black Grey 70.862
Enfine and machineguns - Foundry Gunmetal with GW Nuln Oil wash

    Wing decals - Aviattik 144007
    Markings - MiscMini

This time I used a light blue undercoat for the upper wing, which was better but still not perfect. More experimenting needed.

The Oberst's "Aerodrome Accessories", a Czech-made foursome (my Pfalz D.XIIs) whose name eludes me, Cal Faber's "Aviation Wings", "Reviresco", "Valom", "mehusla's 144direct" and I have a large sheet of 'homebrew' Jasta 40 wing decals which Rob very kindly sent to be, but I have yet to start on (Bad Dog! - no biscuit!).

Thanks Tim. It came off the Jasta 18 Albatros DV sheet. Thanks for the tips on other wing decals available. I'll have a look at them.

    Model - Valom Fokker D.VII

Engine and machine guns - GW Leadbelcher
Propeller - Foundry Musket Stock Brown 72c
Tyres - Vallejo Black Grey 70.862
Struts and undercarriage - GW Ironbreaker
Engine cowling - Foundry Bavarian Cornflower Blue 73a

    Decals - Reverisco

This is the first time I have used the Reverisco all-over decals so was a little unsure of what to expect. I found they fitted the Valom model pretty perfectly, except at the rear of the fusselage, where it was impossible to align the black and white stripe with the tail section. The fuselage section also needed a little massage to get the right fit over the lower wings as no cut out had been provided. There were a few places I had to touch up a gap with a little paint but hopefully they aren't too noticable. I did overpaint the engine cowling area as the overlap of decals created a darker two-toned colour.

Overall I am pleased with the result and I have invested in a few more.
