A very nice set of aircraft Nigel.
As usual I am interested in where you sourced your insignia.
Did you find a manufactured set or did you produce your own as I did for my Jasta?

Hi Rob, If you mean the insignia themselves then they came from images on the net and also from the book "Black Fokker" leader. There are pix & scans in my photo album site listed above. The decals themselves were produced by Zoe Brain & I think she did a really fantastic and convincing job with them. I still have 2 more fokkers of Jasta 40 to do, but I have a couple of other projects currently under way which I want to finish first. (I got a bit tired of all the black - I think I was beginning to turn into a Goth but I just managed to save myself (despite my profile pix...)

    Thanks for that Nigel.
You did exactly the same as I did then. Used the Book "Black Fokker Leader". Now I'm just waiting for the DVII reprints to complete the Jasta.

All great D.VII's Chaps but I must say I love the Jasta 18 Raben colour scheme best.
Here is my Goring repaint of a mythical J18 pilot Bruno von Hinxsmann (who is my evil Hun twin!)
Personal insignia Decals are GW axes.
Thats my Jasta leader August Raben himself in the Dr.I

Love your von Hinxmann Barry. Maybe Kyte and Hawkwood should cultivate arch enemies too.

Yes Rob I agree but Fok D. VII's are like dinosaur eggs.
I would hate to tell you how much I paid for my Goring for that Jasta Raben repaint.

Oh well it cost me $45 US on ebay + postage. Nuff said!

wow. there would be no way I would paint that much. I bought all 3 Nexus ones for $15 each - and if I had realised that even then the company was in trouble (actually had already ceased production), I would have bought a lot more!

I know what you mean but I gave up waiting for new releases a long time ago. Also the Shapeways kit is perfert for all lozenge planes. It's so much easier to lozenge then build than to have a pre built plane. I can't wait for the Ares re-release, but till its available, its Shapeways kits for me.

I agree with Ian about the shapeways kit and lozenge decals. It would be much easier to stick on the decal with a kit than a completed model (I know as i am currently contemplating how to do it properly on my latest project - finished planes and lozenge don't mix well methinks).

I've got those same decals at home so if you don't mind Barry in using your idea on one of my own Fokker D.VII's ?

    You are quite right Nigel.
I always strip my planes down before doing wing decals, although I have seen some very cunning methods on here to get around that problem of struts in the way.

I think all of you have inspired me to try my hand at creating a Jasta. The last time I took paint to a model was in the '70s, but one can only look at the great pictures on this site for so long without jumping in.

    That is great news Eric.
If the chaps efforts can inspire you to take up your brush after all these years, it can only be to the benefit of us all.

Over the next week or so I will spend time rereading posts on painting and do some research on planes and supplies. This should be an interesting, rewarding, and, most likely, humbling experience. I will post pictures when I complete my first plane. Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement.

I guess I should add my Jasta 18 D.VIIs that I recently had time to paint up.

This Jasta is very simple to paint up and goes really quick, oh, and they look really good on the table! What more could you ask for.... besides more D.VII minis to repaint with?

Another impressive group of aircraft Keith.
I know what you mean about more DV11s. I hope the reprints are here soon. I'm still short two Rabans and three for the Black Fokker Jasta.
