But now I think I want to try it. What plane(s) would you suggest for such a group?
Nothing wrong with a fantasy squadron; I have a whole pack of SPADs waiting to be turned into a Buckeye squadron, and Hanriots for a US Naval squadron.
The Jasta von Steuben idea is there too, but I need a pack of D.VIIs first

I have elements of both imaginary Allied and German Squadrons in our OTT campaign, and my new Swordfish Squadron is a complete fiction.

    Default Finally painted mine...

Finally finished enough to post a picture. Had myself a painting evening where I did up this SPAD XIII, a Halberstadt CL.II, and a P2 Warhawk (Crimson Skies).

Have you got info on 266 squadron, i'm thinking the fictional "Bigglesworth" would be proud.

    Default SPA 152 repaint

This is a repaint of Coadou's SPAD XIII - my very good friend (The Blue Whale), who began gaming Wings of Glory with me and another very good friend (rhodie80), loves alligators and crocodiles, and so when looking through one of my books on WWI planes he spotted SPA 152's emblem of a croc with an open mouth, he was gaga about the design. I offered to repaint a plane for him, and we decided Coadou's would be the easiest to work with. There was a picture of a plane in the profiles in the Osprey book on the XIII, so he snapped that up when we were last at the Air Force Museum. Then he gave me the book and the plane and waited patiently for me to finish it.

This past weekend I gave it to him, and he flew it in one of the games we played yesterday, coming through without a scratch. Below are pictures of the finished plane.

The plane (with the exception of decals) was completely repainted in Vallejo acrylics, and the number and croc were also painted in the same. All three of us this weekend agreed how nifty the SPAD XIII looks in its (simple) camouflage, and I think we all want a couple more done up in similar style. The French camo has such a clean look to it.

    As always, thanks for looking!

    All the best,
    Matt

All these planes are original Wings of War Minis from Neux, small conversion from late to early version of SPAD S.XIII consisted in clipping and rounding the wing tips. Decals are home made. First two planes (De Turenne andd Roques) are historical, third one is fictional -- one of my alias when I fly as a French pilot.

I think you're probably right, Rob - it's likely a croc... It was fun to paint - it looks a little rocky blown up this large in these pictures, but it looks fine on the table in play. Perhaps we could get mismini to make SPA 152 one of his sets of French decals...

No you don't, and there are so many great French emblems to put on them. I have the Aeronaut book on the 94th and have been dying to paint one of the Grim Reapers. Now I have to win the raffle to get it back!

    Great decals.
How did you manage to 'print' the white areas? and is the top-wing numeral home made too?

The Grim reaper decals are on clear paper so I painted white on the area of the fuselage I would apply the decal. The 3 on the wing is from a number decal set I got on ebay. I think the seller was in Italy? Item was a set of numbers in several colors, 'FDS AUTOMODELLI DECALS N°14 COLOURED NUMBERS H 7 MM & 8 MM'
