All of these are fine models, but Chris, I really love the "chicken in a circle" bird! Did you hand paint that? Lloyd
Had a spare Fonk whis now
Spad XIII

Very nice as usual Chris.
Your production is now such that I am starting to think you may well be using the services of som illegal immigrant Elf workforce from the U.S.A.
Rob.
All excellent work Chaps.
Do you know I only have one Spad (a British VII F-Toys) in my whole collection.
I wonder why???
In light of my earlier remark, and if you want to rectify the situation, I would take a look here Barry.

Hello Boys of the Aerodrome, my name is Eleonora and I just registered on the Aerodrome, I would like to post some shots of my Spads... out of scale anyway, the pieces are made in 1:1 scale following the respect for tecniques and colors. I Like to hang some at the wall of my room! hope you like :-)

Glad to hear you achieved your objective Hayden.
Re the card. You may be able to get Gunners or Max to do you one if they don't have one already in their albums. You will need a good top down view for them to work on.
Rob.
A very pretty little Flight of Spads you have there in no mistake Jon. I'm sure they will all do good service.
Rob.
And that is a very smart piece of work too Hayden.
Rob.
SPAD XIII, one flown by Guynemers S504 and one from SPA94. Repaints of Nexus models.

These models are also very nicely rendered Jorgen. Just wish I could see the side vie a bit better because it looks as if there are some splendid decals on the Cammo covered one.

Here's my 91a Squadriglia, all Shapeways.

Well, done bunch of Spads! Lloyd
Very well produced as usual Ian.
I do like the overpainting of the roundels on the top wing.

A very nice job done by all of you. A great looking bunch of planes
The decals are home made, the images I used are saved in my folder here.

Cracking Job Eric.
They always look more grainy in the close ups than in the flesh so to speak.
The painting is very good.

Look superb Eric
Eric,
Great job. I have often though about making up a sort of fictional American squadron complete with a bold and very American paint scheme. But I thought with all the marvelous historians on the board, I would get beer thown on me or something!
But now I think I want to try it. What plane(s) would you suggest for such a group?
Well, you could do a Nieuport 17 squadron, like the one in the movie Flyboys, or you could use SPADs, since many American squadrons flew them. I must admit I'm not an expert on the planes used by the American pilots during the war. Since you're planning a fictional squadron, why not pick planes you fancy, even if they are British (Sopwith or SE5 for example) or even Belgian (like the very nice Hanriot). Once you decide on a squadron paint scheme, go for broke!
Eric
Americans also flew the Nieuport 28, a pretty but fragile aircraft. An SE5a squadron was also forming at the end of the war, don't know if it actually flew in combat. I don't know if there were US Camel squadrons.
I just started work on a SPAD XIII myself. Fuselage and upper wing carved, lower wing in progress. I got WOW:FA for my birthday and I already had models for the German planes and the Neiuport promo card. I figured I should round out my collection to match the in-game planes.
If I get the SPAD finished in the next few days I'll try to remember to post it. But I'm a little further along on a Halberstadt CL-II and I may elect to finish that up instead.
At any rate, these are some great looking planes here already.
These are very nice, Eric. How did you get the borders between the camo colors so sharp? Is that all freehand, or do you use an airbrush and masking?
Great looking kites, Eric!
I second this... would certainly be appropriate, as would SPAD S.VIIs or S.XIIIs. The S.VII might be easiest as the Ares version is due out later this month... and either the Guynemer or Soubiran SPAD could serve as a handy vehicle for a repaint.
Don't let history stand in the way of a good idea. As soon as I finish the french Spad I'm working on for the OtT campaign, I think I'm going to start working on crates for the fantasy "coalition" squadron I've had in mind for awhile (The Wild Card Squadron), with planes & pilots from all the Allied nations w/ markings from the face cards from a Poker deck.
As for planes for your Americans, as the others say, Nieuport 11's & 17's earlier on & Spad XIII's & Nieuport 28's were the most common, though I know there were a tiny number of SE5a's & Camels introduced, but I don't know if they saw combat (though that shouldn't stop you if you wanted to add a few to the mix...this is a fantasy squadron after all, so as long as it's plausible & historically accurate from a time line perspective, I say go for it!)
Thanks. I've been looking forward to it for some time, but just haven't had time. What I want to do is assign 3 pilots from each nationality to each suite as the Ace, King, & Jack. (I'm thinking the Queen will be the Chief Mechanic of each ground crew?).
So far I'm thinking Britian = Spades, France=Hearts, 2 seaters & bombers of all nations = Clubs, & all other members (Russia, Italy, Belgum, & later USA = Diamonds).
Also thinking of sneaking in a couple of Americans (unofficially) in either the British or French unit OR as official "observers" marked as Jokers (which I'm strongly leaning toward).
Each suite will fly the planes of their own nation, marked appropriately for the unti. (So the Spades will be Camels, Se5's, Hearts are Nieuports & Spads, etc).
